Access to shered file via pnethood

#422 Post by shinobar »

Luci-234: Mount cif shared drive with pnethood and open a shared text file with geany.
The geany shows all blank
gmplayer and mtpaint no problem.

Same test on LupQ-511/Puppy-431JPqs3 shows no problem.
I have not yet tested on Lucu-511.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=61338

EDIT: Tested Lucu-511. The geany shows all blank same as Luci-234.
I wonder why :?:
LupQ-511 and Lupu-511 has same pnethood and geaney...
jwm are a bit different versions.

Oh btw, fluxbox can easily change to another window manager without restarting X:
Menu -> Fluxbox Menu -> Window -> JWM I should add openbox too

I wonder if openbox can do this too they're both forks of blackbox if I recall correctly. Also you can switch wallpaper from fluxbox's menu too it's under "Fluxbox Wallpapers" has lots of features indeed :)

Playdayz and shinobar and peebee.
Maybe it dropped out when remastering...?
Attached /usr/bin/sysclient.bin zipped.
It is there but the name is wrong: /usr/bin/synclient-bin. I renamed it to synclient.bin and Flsynclient started to work. Didnt notice it because I got working touchpad from the beginning and I didnt need to do the usual setting to get faster movement and tap the click to work.

But the solution was easy. No need to download anything. Just rename it.

personally i wasn't confused about the keep desktop persistent button on the WM switcher but i installed dejan's fluxbox and I have to admit, his 'change or keep' window seemed like a much clearer way to accomplish the task. I understand its kind of a nag window but how often will normal users switch back and forth between WM's?

And I need to try this again but I think after installing wbar my desktops weren't switching. Gotta try this again though to be sure.

Testing Lupu234

it has still the automatic indexing of a directory which I would prefer to be a choice and not something one have to love or not use a puppy for.

LupQ did not have the automatic indexing thanks to Shinobar preference?

How can I turn it off in the Lupu234 version?

apart from this it seems to just work. Even wine using spotify worked.

Like others have pointed out streaming video are jerky at full screen but not when one use the small default screen.

But maybe that has to do with drivers. I accepted the one the script chosed automatically.

not an ideal solution though

Frugal installation of luci-234 is fast and stable, however there is one showstopper on my system. When switching from the default Openbox to my preferred JWM, the menu bar disappears. Only choice is to switch back to Openbox. Hope it's just my installation.

Cheers,
Jim

Follow up: New download doesn't have this problem.

Do you mean this? LupQ does also automatic indexing but a bit different from Luci/Lupu.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 348#442348

The issue is the version of libgnome-menu.
  • Lupu uses libgnome-menu.so.2.4.6.
  • LFatdog/LupQ, /libgnome-menu.so.2.4.2.
  • LWary and most of Puppy, libgnome-menu.so.2.0.2.

Shinobar,

maybe, I did not update to your later version. I use an older version of LupQ and that one does not index as far as I know. So maybe you changed that lib then?

So should I edit the lib that is for lupu234 then or how does one inactivate the indexing.

Siegbert had it as a choice. One could click a box and then it did not index and untick that box and it started to index next time one booted.

Is that easy to implement?

indexing

#432 Post by shinobar »

The menu system of LupQ-511 is from lupq-003.
The difference between LupQ-511 and 510 is small: http://shino.pos.to/linux/lupq/changes.html

I am not sure but do you mean the Stardust/DuDe?

shinobar your menu.lst has a i915.modeset=1 code in it. What purpose does that one have?

older text

Most likely in the "Control panel" you could tic or click a x in the box and that changed from indexing a dir to not index a dir.

Very handy.

I don't remember me ever installed a DuDe at all.

Can't keep background set

#434 Post by peebee »

luci234 with icewm

I choose and set my desired background (my own image file but stored in usr/share/backgrounds)

I reboot

The chosen background appears for a short time and then changes to a plain grey......

Cheers
Peter

Oh, that would be me. It is supposed to be synclient.bin, am I correct? I just corrected it for luci-235. Thanks.

Chat to pidgin not quite there. I click on pidgin and it asks me to
select from a list of servers. I am meant to select Freenode
and go to #puppylinux.
Before I just clicked on chat . . .
OK downloaded Xchat with Quickpet - same problem, it wants to
know settings most new Puppys will not know .
Yes Lobster, we will be incorporating an auto script to connect to IRC #puppylinux just like ayttm had--dejan555 has volunteered or maybe hes ays we can steal one from wolfpup.

I get this background as my first impression of 2.3.4.and I assume it is the same for everyone?
Yes Sir Jasper. It won't be the default background on the release. You know how I experiment--I would like to explore what makes a good background--to push the limits a little bit so we don't just keep doing the same thing. A little more chaos and anarchy ;-)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of possible backgrounds for Lucid 5.2--I think it might be nice to have some kind of Puppy logo or identifying text. So people could make some--or take pre-existent backgrounds and "emboss" the logo or some other way to make it look cool.

playdayz, why don't you add some Flash installer to 5.2? Barry mentioned this in his blog and I think it could be a great addition to the browser chooser.

Just think of it ... you install your browser, then things like Flash and Moonlight. Could save some ISO size, make 5.2 more future-proof and make life easier.

EDIT: here's an example.

Code: Select all

wget http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
tar xzvf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
rm install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
mv libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

How did you switch? I have switched a number of times using wmswitcher without losing the panel at the bottom.

Wmswitching is not as simple as it looks--there is a lot going on under the hood there....

I also just switched with Exit to prompt and 'xwin jwm.' That seemed to work also--maybe try whichever one you weren't using ;-)
