In the JWM configuration manager
When you select "or apply current GTK theme to JWM" Is the problem of the tray being removed fixed?

No. Now it just does nothing, which is at least not catastrophic. Cant we just hide it as an option :)

you are pulling my leg?
Now that I am very slowly getting a grip on it (openbox/FBpanel)?
Seriously now, I prefer JWM, but I wished I could configure it to have the tray at the left side.

What do you mean? A vertical tray down the laft side of the screen?

Might the problem be that the new versions aren't compatible with K6 CPUs?
I think that is very likely. Is is not anything we did (purposefully anyway) but it might well have been something Ubuntu did, We have updated numerous components from the Lucid version to the Maverick version and one of those could be the reason..
I suspected that might be the case. Lupu 5.1.1 will do for the time being but it would be nice to run 5.2 on it eventually. I think I'll full install 5.1.1 and stick to a frugal install for testing Luci.

I've read that full installs can sometimes be a little dodgy, what should I be looking out for?

I am investigating jwmconfig2 since several days or weeks now and was able to hack the code .

The jwmconfig3 of mine looks like the appended picture.

I am still booting everyday to see if there is some [] - echo - sed or gtkdialog incompatibility to other puppies.

I could load it up for testing purposes and because of the differences in the /usr/share/themes/*/gtkrc files there are no values echoed to /root/.jwm/jwmrc_colors which made me testing sources and lenny themes. The pet would be around 900-1000 KB including several themes and their engines. I would like to know which Ubuntu the actual luci is based upon to prevent error messages to xerrs.log like GLIB Critical ... g_object_ assertation ...!= NULL failed and so on...

Sure.
Instead of having it horizontal at the bottom, I like it vertical at the left hand side.

To me it seems that it was "fixed" by making it inoperative. Maybe someone else can test. Thanks.

Samba for Lucid.

We have two good packages, and two ways to install. Mobeus Samba 3.5.5 is available as an sfs which will be in Quickpet under SFS get (not yet). Shinobar's 3.5.5 will be available as a pet in the Puppy Package Manager. Shinobar has also supplied Samba-Locales as a pet.

Mobeus sfs -> http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ucid-1.sfs

Shinobar's pet -> http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... -lucid.pet

Shinobar's Samba Locales pet -> http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ocales.pet

I noticed that a Samba install seems slightly complicated--I would want the instructions. But on the other hand anyone attempting a samba install probably knows at least somewhat what they are doing.

If you look back we have had very few troubles, I can't think of any, that were due to Openbox. That says good things to me. Oh, just recently--Ogle would not go full screen in Openbox but ttuuxxx says that might just be key bindings. Anyway, we have had trouble, at least 5 different things, with jwm. BUT they are all fixed or mitigated now---and jwm has always been synonymous with Puppy to me--the only reason for openbox was the issues with jwm.

Someone had mentioned the plethora of window manager configuration programs under Desktop on the menu--and that made sense that newbies would be confused. So, I am thinking that having it in PPM is just as good--if you want it you can install it easily, plus the Desktop menu is more streamlined.

Remember that Lucid 5.1.1 was based exclusively on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. The LTS stands for Long Term Support, as this is one of the versions Ubuntu will support for 3 years (2 and a half more years)! So it will be reasonably current for quite a while.

ttuuxxx, Did you say you had a Theme button in 2.14X? Is that something we could borrow? Is it a button in the taskbar that will automatically change Background and JWM Theme? People might enjoy having 7 or so themes available with one-click.

Oh, they would need, jwm theme, gtk theme, background, and icon set. Or maybe someone could make a nice gui that could change all of those things at the same time so people could more easily do mix and match and trial and error. Well, I guess people could do it now by starting 4 programs ;-) Ah, with some presets for built in themes. Dream on. Maybe next time. Has zigbert already done this?

Lucid 5.1.1 was exclusively 10.04. However, Luci 241 and Lucid 5.2 are based on a number of different programs from Maverick. I think of it as a rolling release (a la Arch Linux). That makes it a hybrid and I wouldn't be surprised that is what is responsible for the messages. GTK+ is from 10.04. I tried to update GTK+ but there was one big problem with pixbuf--it would not work, period. This is one reason I feel that Lucid 5.2 will be about as far as the Lucid framework can stretch.

playdayz,
If you put OpenBox in the PPM, does that make it only one window manager, at initial install, with option to install others from PPM?
If yes, do you still need window manager switcher in the initial install?

" I thought you could get online without pwireless2 "

Yes because I have a phone line >> adsl2

"""""""""
but without the level of encryption you wanted.

Lan works with my security

""""""""""
Is that wrong, and you can not get on line at all without pwireless2?

If I only had wireless....no LAN >> because I had no phone line
I would be be a lame duck.

The current security options aren't there in Puppy...
Classic or Simple.
WPA2-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key)

Mixed WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK

WPA-802.1x

Also if you could link to the drivers I will put them in PPM. I know you might have already, and I am *almost* keeping up. Thanks.

I think we could do that. First we will put it back in the iso and see if there really are any problems. We might even ask jemimah to check too.

Good point. We would have to put it into each of the window manager pets if not. I think maybe to leave it to give people the idea about trying different window managers...

Wait. wait. What am I doing. I am not listening to myself. What did I say, we had not had any problems with Openbox. Well, it's too late.

The one in 2.14X basically is a GUI for the actual apps, It didn't work on puppy 5.2 So I made one. Basically it sits on the desktop. You might want to add the desktop icon switcher to it.
ttuuxxx

ps just install it and restart X server.

Basically it sits on the desktop
It seems to be lobster proof
Not only did it work very easily
but on first run it reset my inadvertently deleted trash icon
AND worked with Openbox (I would be quite happy to only have JWM incidentally)

It reset to default settings (such as my background image)
but changing is so easy I was not bothered.

Would it be easy to create a button that opened
/usr/share/backgrounds/
called 'drag n' drop backgrounds'
for personalised wallpapers?

Well done ttuuxxx
hope we can have this in 241? :)
