Hold Everything! I just tried rcrsn51's samba-tng-rcrsn-0.5-rc1.pet in Quirky130 and it shares as well as my .pet but is 1/30th the size.

Nice work rcrsn51.

P.S. For a dedicated Samba file server see PupServer-435

Why is it so huge? Does it include all the documentation and stuff? Are the binarys and libs stripped?
My samba server and client components are all in /opt/samba and total less than 5MB.
I got an incomplete install in an otherwise empty 128MB pupsave.
Isn't Puppy supposed to check there is enough free space before installing a .pet? I think you should report a bug.

Built from samba-3.4.2.tar.bz2 (30MB) as compiled by Barry for Quirky. Documentation is present but takes 216kb compressed.

Perhaps you should upload your samba setup. Is it for Quirky or Puppy4? Barry's samba-3.0.26.pet for Puppy4 is 14MB

Yes, I remember earlier puppy's giving an error message and refusing to continue installing if they didn't have enough room in pupsave. Had this happen twice, once in Quirky130 and once in Wary070.

FWIW my Samba server is from a three year old package which was stripped down so it only contained what was really needed. I can't remember whether it is an official package or if I'm still using one built by MU. I haven't tried samba-tng, but I would if I was setting up a new puppy :)
