How to get the files right for Kindle publishing?

#1 Post by Blackfish »

I've recently begun sending HTML files to my Kindle email address for reading. Now, I am starting to think about publishing on Kindle. But I notice the pictures I write into my HTML files do not show up when I read the document on the Kindle.

Anyone else using Puppy, publishing on Kindle, and getting good results? Is it possible to make MOBI files with Puppy? MOBI is perhaps the best type of file for publishing on Kindle, so I have heard. But I have never heard of MOBI until now. I know nothing about it and cannot find a way to make them.

I was noodling around last night and found this PDF:

https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A2M ... go-ffab-20

I read it and it says that Libre Office can be used to make suitable files for Kindle publishing.

I write everything in HTML anyway. But I read another piece last night that shows some of the HTML and CSS tags are not supported. As it turns out, Kindle works with very simple HTML:

It's a whole lotta monkey business, but I think this will be worth it when I finally get it all figured out.

I have tried several options for my second book. Kindlegen for Linux (outdated)works in terminal however all the items I converted failed. Couldn't even open them in Calibre, (I use the portable linux version).

I installed writer2epub in my office suite Libre office and it created a wonderful ebub that I could edit all the metadata, cover etc. in however it did not convert with kindlegen for Linux.

Finally I tried online conversion through Zamzar and ended up with a perfect .mobi file. I haven't submitted it yet but it opens in Calibre and views perfectly. Hope that helps.
Puppy Linux...
It just works!
