setting up the touchpad scroll bar?
My laptop (an emachine m6811) has the right bit of the touchpad set be a 'scrolling' interface, i'm sure you know what i'm talking about. that strip of the pad is usable now, but it only moves the mouse vertically (no horizontal motion whatsoever). I was wondering how to go about enabling it to be used as a scrolling device as it's supposed to be used. I'm running lupu 5.0

Hmmm. For Lupu, you probably don't want to install the synclient pet - that one's intended for 4.31. Sorry I didn't think to tell you that earlier.
I think Lupu already has the synclient (or it did, until you installed the 4.3.1 synclient ). At least one person reported success running it on LuPu, so it is possible.

If it's a frugal install, there should be a copy of the original in /initrd/pup_ro2/usr/X11R7/bin/synclient. Copy it to /usr/X11R7/bin/synclient.
Otherwise, you should be able to restore it by copying it out of the SFS file.
You can verify a working version by running 'synclient -l' from the command line.

Does you mouse work for moving around the screen and double click on menus etc - just the scrolling on the right edge of the touch pad used for moving up and down web pages that doesn't work?
If so maybe try
Menu>Setup> Xorg video wizard - Edit xorg.conf
and adding this to the bottom of - Section "InputDevice":
So it will now look like this:
if you dont see any of this in xorg.conf try
menu>shutdown>exit to prompts
type: xorgwizard
then run though the setup options and try the above again.

ah for some strange reason i have a delay on my touchpad tap that i didn't have before. It takes about 400 ms or so for the tap to go through, kind of annoying. I played around with enabling touch tapping in the mouse/keyboard wizard, and with having the Option "TapButton1" "1" in my xorg.conf to get the delay to stop, but no luck. strange little problem...
