Hehe, Puppy wins again

Our DeaDBeeF pet is just 200 KB, it's a great replacement for Pmusic. Originally, I made a 200 KB pet which beat the 250 KB of dejan555's Aqualung. Then, dejan555 recompiled DeaDBeeF, this time he hacked the menus to remove some non-functioning items, around 215 KB but it's worth it :)

About ffmpeg ... playdayz, would you like me to make a new ffmpeg that can be used by both dpup and Maverick? Some shared code won't do any harm :)

James C. Your wallpaper is nice. Is it somewhere for downloading or is it even in luci maverick. Yes, I havent had time to download and play with it yet.

I thought so. I feel really ashamed. Well...Maybe tomorrow I have time to play with Lucid Maverick. But that wallpaper goes to my Luci 5.1.1.

How about Maverick Puppy or MavPup

#54 Post by tazoc »

Great work! Thanks for the sneak preview.

Maybe I'm a little fussy, but I find 'Lucid Maverick' and Luma a bit confusing... is it Lucid Lynx or Maverick Meerkat, or a combination? :?

Seems like this could be Maverick Puppy or Mav Pup.
There was Lupu, now maybe Mapu. 8)
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks again for many contributions to Puppy,
TazOC

Hi TazOC

The intention is to stick with the 'lupu' prefix for upgrading capability from Puppy 5.x.x as far as I understand.

Playdayz always uses a separate prefix for dev versions until the final few versions, hence 'luma'. As for the actual name well I guess that is a bit up in the air at the moment

Thanks for your interest.

Cheers

luma-002 :

Running fine as usual

CUPS 1.4.3 : first time I encountered
Epson_Stylus_SX410-1  geany job #3  root  253k  Unknown  stopped
"/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftopdf failed"

shinobars' lupq-510rc CUPS-1.4.3 I`ve tested today was working fine

dpup-005 CUPS 1.4.4 I`ve not tested already .. dpup-004 CUPS-1.4.4 blocked with username and password ...

Kernel 2.6.34.1 would be nice to test :

Fresh frugal install of Luma-002 on the old P3.Initial boot had working sound internet and screen resolution.Installed Xorg-High and Firefox.
Tested MPlayer with avi, wmv and mp4 so far.........when playing fullscreen the picture occasionally goes to a bluescreen for a few seconds before returning to the video. No problem watching the default size though. No apparent problems with audio.Using JWM, will try Icewm later.

Looks good so far. Thanks for the sneak peek.

Packages installed: Nvidia-256.35_lupu500-k2.2.33.2, hplip-3.9.12-scan, Bibletime-2.7.2-Lucid, gnome-games-Lite_2.26.1-i486-uj,
VLC-1.0.6-Lucid, numlockx_Lucid_1.1.10, Firefox-4.9b3-Lucid (upgraded to b6), dude-0.4.1, pwidgets-2.2.7, PupShutdown-1.3, Thunderbird-3.1-Lucid. SFS files: amarok-1.4-lucid.sfs, wine-1.31-i486-sfs4.sfs. OpenOffice-3.2.sfs.
All of which work fine in Lucid 5.1.1.

Two problems, if not for these (especially Thunderbird), I'd say it's already beta quality:
(1) Thunderbird refuses to link to /mnt/home/.thunderbird, otherwise it works well. I've tried installing it from Maverick repositories, however it has missing dependencies that I can't locate. I have no problem with relative links with other programs.
(2) Amarok fails to run

Code: Select all

# amarok
Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
kbuildsycoca running...
QLayout "unnamed" added to QVBox "unnamed", which already has a layout
QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow
QObject::connect: Incompatible sender/receiver arguments
	StarManager::ratingsColorsChanged() --> ContextBrowser::ratingOrScoreOrLabelsChanged(const QString&)
amarokapp: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpulsecommon-0.9.21.so: undefined symbol: xcb_atom_get
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
  Major opcode: 7
  Minor opcode: 0
  Resource id: 0x2a0006a
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
  Major opcode: 20
  Minor opcode: 0

JamesC, I should have mentioned. Gnome-mplayer is the latest version 0.9.9.2-1. In my testing it does not work correctly playing full screen with JWM. That is why we had used an older version 0.9.6, but dad gum it ;-) if jwm has too many problems let's try something else. Whoa--did it actually play full screen with JWM?

Such as LXDE Light -> http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=59673
I think dejan555 has also made a fluxbox that I am trying to track down.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I am wondering if we ought to have an Email Chooser, comparable to the Browser Chooser. Why have a stripped email program--if I need to do email I need to do real email, so why not a choice between Sylpheed 3.10 with GnuPG, Thunderbird, or Eudora--we have them all ready. If you want to do email then you have an internet connection so that would not be a problem..

Any opinions, comments, ideas, please.

Have you tried it from PPM jim1911.
Have you also tried downloading Thunderbird from mozilla.net or org?

I am sure I broke something. I am going to try for Cups 1.4.4 which will be in Maverick.

Kernel, Maverick will have 2.6.35 and so I hope will we.

I took a different direction, good old VLC. :) Downloaded from Quickpet and wouldn't launch.Missing libhal.so.1.
Installed missing lib and working fine. Plays the same videos fullscreen with no problem.
By the way, MPlayer also had the problems in Icewm too, but I knew VLC wouldn't disappoint me.

Hal bit us. You might have noticed on the first message I mentioned that Lucid Mav is "hal-free", but VLC wasn't one of the ones compiled by Ubuntu to not need hal--we can add hal to the pet as you did.
