[Resolved] SCSI scanner in Lucid 525

#1 Post by ahoppin »

I'm trying to set up an older Umax Powerlook 2100XL SCSI scanner in Puppy. It converses with an Adaptec AIC7850 SCSI card in an Asus A7N8X.

Lucid 525 doesn't seem to be finding the SCSI card. Xsane reports "no device," and I see no /dev/scanner (should I be looking for something else?).

I found posts in this forum suggesting that SCSI support existed in Puppy from release 4.31 - perhaps it's this particular card that isn't supported? If so, what card should I try to find?

I found a page full of RPM drivers for the Adaptec AIC7xxx range here:

http://people.freebsd.org/~gibbs/linux/RPM/aic7xxx/

And a page of diskette images here:

http://people.freebsd.org/~gibbs/linux/DUD/aic7xxx/

But they're all named with crptic abbreviations (I think the first few are for various versions of Red Hat, but that's just a guess). There's no indication on either page of which driver might be suitable for our tail-wagging friend.

I'm not too sure I'm ready to rebuild the kernel just yet ...

Suggestions?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Glory be, that's the answer. sane now finds the card and the scanner.

Still having some problems with Xsane, but I'll post that separately. This one is resolved. Many thanks!
