How to get Ensoniq ES1370 sound card working?

#1 Post by zlim »

I've figured out that I need to type modprobe sb to try and get sound working. The problem is, I don't know where I type it or where I need to place it.
I'm currently running Live v. 1.0.7 with a possible install provided I can get the sound working. (It does work on a Live Ubuntu CD).

Looking a Xproc/sound/advanced, I have the following entry
BUS1, device 8, function 0:
Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1370{auto PCI] rev 0 IRQ5
Master Capable Latency=96 Min Gnt=12 Max Lat=128
I/O at 0x200[0x203f]

I also opened XtMix just to be certain that nothing was muted.

The "sb" OSS driver is for ISA SoundBlaster cards.
The OSS driver for your PCI Ensoniq ES1370 is "es1370".

To load this driver open an xterminal and run this command -
modprobe es1370

Later you can add this command to the bootscript /root/.etc/rc.d/rc.local

Thanks! :D
Before I posted back, I wanted to see if it was working. I was reading the news page, saw lobster had a pawed cast. I clicked the link, gxine started up. It was faint so I got the chance to see exactly where the volume should be set in Xtmix by dragging the red dot around. It looks like puppy might be the perfect fit for this old computer.
