How to use Epson ET-4750?

#1 Post by olaf »

Hi,
I want to install the (Linux) software from the manufacturer Epson for my printer Epson ET-4570, or at least be able to print with the device.
Unfortunately I don't know which package is the right one.
I have now done a few attempts and could select the printer in CUPS, but it did not print, "filter failed".
The computer is an old ThinClient with a Sempron 210u.

Ok I had the same thing trying to use an XP-422 .

I built the driver from Epson and here is the result.
Seems ok even for very old puppies (2 series!) as long as using cups.

Basically add the files and in there there seems to be a ppd for your model... methinks ET-4700 is the one.
Its a bit manual but you install and choose that ppd from /usr/share/ppd and it hopefully will work using the included drivers.
I have the printer via the home network which detected it just fine.

Note ...you may need to edit the ppd for the correct filter path if it cannot find it...check the /var/log/cups/error.log.

Its a lot lot faster than gutenprint by the way but you cannot use the gutenprint interface in gimp but the gtk print works fine.
