My HPLIP packages have always had this problem - you need to restart the device after a scan session before it will print again. It has to do with USB detection and may be specific to the HP model.

I wonder if lluamco's hplip-lite package avoids this situation.

Re CUPS 1.4.4 - there may be good reasons for upgrading if you are installing Open/Libre Office. Does it also require the SDL-1.2.14-w5c package?

I have an HP PSC 1210 and I always have had to restart the printer after scanning, just a quirk I guess. No great hindrance.

Which driver do you use - lluamco's hplip-lite or my hplip_scan?

HP pac 1210`

This little glitch with HP devices also depends on the CUPS version. It may be that your CUPS 1.4.4 install didn't have it, while CUPS 1.3.11 definitely does.

Actually, it may have had it, maybe not in exactly the same way. I remember times when I had to restart the 4480 for the scanner to be found.

Also, I do seem to require SDL-1.2.14-w5c to print.

I've been using this same highly tailored sytem through so many upgrades for so many years that I can'r remember all the changes. I do recall that when I went to Cups 1.4 it was because LibreOffce of that time required it for printing.

It's quite good enough now to get back to the real work that I use this computer for. All tidied and backed up.

I have posted the iP4900 Series printer driver in the Canon printer thread here.

This is a new driver, so please provide feedback. Did you try any of the other iP drivers?

[Edit] Attachment deleted - no feedback provided. If anyone else wants this driver, they can post another request.

It is good to know there is some support for cannon. I need to go through my old ones and see if they are now supported. Is this the pup version of this driver?

TurboPrint Linux

TurboPrint - printer drivers for Linux - Canon PIXMA iP4950

Thanks

No. The source of these drivers is explained here.

The Brother HL-1450 printer has been connected with a 25-pin cable for years to my ASUS P5A-based computer, and prints fine from Windows 98SE.
I had used the Brother installation disk for that.

I don't think I've ever printed from Linux.

The other day I was writing a small text document with Geany on this computer, a Dell Latitude D610 with Lucid Puppy 5.28

I moved the printer's cable to this computer's jack, but then realized I had no idea how to print.

I see that near the end of this long thread, rcrsn51 had made an (hopefully easy-to-use) pet file for someone.

If convenient, I'd like something that would be easy for me to install.

I would try to follow whatever instructions.

Many thanks,

Sheldon

First of all, the Brother section is here.

I just checked and there is already a Gutenprint driver for the HL-1450 in Puppy. Have you actually tried to install this printer yet in CUPS?

Because it's a parallel port printer, it may not be auto-detected. So you will have to go through Add Printer step-by-step.

Hi, Sorry for the delay. Only just got to check back on this thread.
Can you repost the attachment for the ip4900 series please?
I'll give it a whirl and get back to you with some feedback :-)

Downloaded and installed!
A huge thank you bud 8)
The install went smooth as silk via CUPS printer wizard and the print is clear and sharp.

Is it possible to have the option of increasing the resolution beyond 600dpi?
Its looking really good for text documents and most other jobs but it'd be nice to up the quality for photos etc.
Once again many thanks.

Is this code from here and the German link? Make a backup copy of the PPD file and try it.

Are you claiming that you can tell the difference between 600 DPI and 1200 DPI?
