Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 Release - This is the official release
Re: install linux puppy on eeepc erasing windows xp
All what you need is bootup from USB and format your HDD using Gparted, then install Puppy on the HDD.Fée wrote:made an usb bootable everything worked correctly exept the fact that it was running on the usb and windows xp was still present filling the disk space...
my question is how can i erase windows xp and completely install linux puppy.
The question is:
- What file system is better to format the partition?
- Which is better FULL or FRUGAL install?
- How to configure the boot loader?
I do not give the answer here because i have the answer in LupQ.
By the way, I recommend Pupeee or Fluppy for eeepc's.

tazmod yes on mine it does. And I have had weird symtoms me worried about too.
So thanks for asking. What is it about?
using google I found this
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 5ad2d36ce7
Could you read that one and see if it helps? I am not good at grasping such texts

I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

OK it appears I was being a bit paranoid.
What now makes me laugh is I used it myself in firewallstate !!!
Reading down major(7)s blurb I now realise he was part of the icanhazip development.
It uses a script that parses your external ip address and returns it, however if you use the browser for the address it opens his 'man' page.
It seems that it is run by the network tray icon when you access the information.
It will do the same for firewallstate.
Someone else uses 'whatismyip' for a return in the ip, so that will throw up an address also.
I feel a bit of an idiot for not realising

Compiz Install on 5.1.1
I was trying to follow this thread but my eyes got tired by page 20. I just installed 5.1.1 on my desktop. I had strange video issues with ubuntu 10.04, so I switched. i want to know what is the best way to install compiz. I know it will run in ubuntu on my machine.

HP Compaq Smartbook Airlife 100 with Puppy?
There is appearing a new smartbook at the scene. It contains an Arm Snapdragon processor.
Is there a chance for a Puppy installation without greater issues?

ARM as you probably know is different to the x86 processor familyArm Snapdragon processor
With greater compatibility with Larrys Lucid 'maverick' Puppy
and Ubuntu binaries and the continuing efforts of Iguleder and Puppy Squeeze, the potential for a Puppy running on ARM becomes more feasible
as Ubuntu and Debian already support ARM.
and also . . .
I am please to report I am back in Lucid and was able to watch an hour of streaming video with only one catch up point (not a crash)
This is great because I prefer Lucid but was having browser conflicts.
I did a major clean up just in case some scrpt or beta left over was
interfering - so far so good.
. . . even more good news . . .
This morning my sister plugged in a new graphic tablet
and it worked out of the box in Puppy Lucid (the basic functions anyway)
She was impressed.

Request for comprehensive fix for Ayttm....
We are still getting people with problems in #puppylinux with ayttm.
I request a full and comprehensive fix - to be released - one that either replaces ayttm with midori + webirc page or a fixed ayttm - OR include xchat as default.
I would also like to ask that all old releases 5.0 - 5.1 with broken ayttm be taken off the download site - and/or be patched with the before-mentioned fix.
I'm a regular Lucid 5.1.1 user - but having so many people complain & laugh & call Lucid crap is very, very dissapointing.
I think the puppylinux community can do better.
Paul

Have you tested the gnash Flash-replacement?Lobster wrote:and also . . .

I have been trying it with Seamonkey in Fluppy 005.
It works ... sometimes.

imagination 2.1 package
I made a pet package for Imagination 2.1.
It will make a video presentation from images and sound.
It's basically a simple way to make a video.
I added libwavpack to make it work on Lucid Puppy.
Available here
http://www.datafilehost.com/download-f5bc0f90.html
It works on Lucid puppy. It has the translations for German
and Spanish included.
More info :

@don570
Long time since using imagination, so to speak, last tried it in the Puppy 2x series . . . many thanks for putting that together . . .
Was able to export a couple of slideshows in flv this time, seems to be working fine so far
@edoc
Gnash working sometimes is just the same as Flash, just another set of problems.
Long term it is may be the better solution.
Paul thanks for spending so much time supporting the Puppy chat channel.
Xchat only works with Irc. Ayttm does seem to be working OK with the other instant message options it supports. Which is strange as IRC is the simplest format. Maybe contacting the developer with the Puppy problems . . .
The web irc solutions require a captcha each time we press chat. Not much fun if testing.
A possible solution is similar to the first time you click browse - offering various options.
There is some text chat code in PSIP and there may be other tiny clients (including command line versions which could be given a front end)

I think mick01 was working on the feasibility of doing this - not sure if it happened and I know Wow got compiz working on a recent Puppy but not sure if it was Lucid . . . any news?i want to know what is the best way to install compiz
Need DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS-ubuntu-lucid file (5.1.1 Release)
Where can i find file DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS-ubuntu-lucid (Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 Release)? I'm trying to create my own distro.
Running ./3builddistro I have message
To fix that i am trying to ./2createpackages only for for linux_kernel-2.6.33.2-tickless_smp_patched-L3 and getting as a result message
However, I see the linux-kernel pet-package placed in /packages-pet directory by my own eyes! More over I remove it twice with the same linux-kernel .pet-file downloading by hand from ftps.
How can I fix the problem!?
Running ./3builddistro I have message
Code: Select all
WARNING, PKG DOES NOT EXIST: packages-lupu/linux_kernel-2.6.33.2-tickless_smp_patched-L3
Code: Select all
ERROR: 'linux_kernel-2.6.33.2-tickless_smp_patched-L3' PET package does not exist in packages-pet.
How can I fix the problem!?

gfnrename changes file type
I used gfnrename in lucid puppy for the first time. I renamed 15 files, and it kept the extension .pdf, but when I looked at properties, it said file type was text. Xpdf won't open them. I had to re-scan 15 pages. ugh. Fix?
