Edoc. You can easily check if your delta upgraded 511.iso is right. If it has same MD5sum as 511.iso posted by playdayz then there is nothing wrong with your 511.iso which you upgraded.

I believe it is your savefile which inhibits cups to work.

delta.iso is usually safer way to update iso, because it is smaller download and smaller risk that there is couple of bytes upside down.

The Delta iso looks like this:

# md5sum lupu-511.iso
6e34d1bcdad74df7d6352a6d672522ec lupu-511.iso

Interestingly, the SFS from the Delta iso looks like this:

# md5sum lupu-511.sfs
164ab0fd64393099f4f9794606f4e515 lupu-511.sfs

I have no idea why they are different and presume that they should be.

It is a major nuisance if every time I update Lucid I have to do a backup and reinstall of a bunch of apps.

I have Seamonkey and OpenOffice and a number of other apps outside of the Save File but symlinked-in.

Edoc. 511.sfs is inside 511.iso. You didnt compare your iso.delta upgraded 511.iso MD5sum to original 511.iso MD5sum.

511.sfs of course give different MD5sum than 511.iso.

So the Delta upgrade from 5.1.0 to 5.1.1 broke CUPS.

Odd, I also did the Delta upgrade of the ISO and haven't noticed any CUPs problems on Merlin when using the existing pupsave.

Cheers for doing the Flash update, saved me having to figure out which one to use from Adobe's site. Any chance of a PET for Opera 10.62?

Also, v2.6 of NetSurf has just come out. Still no Javascript, but I think they've done more work on the Linux version. Pity there isn't an autobuilder for the development releases like they have for the RISC OS version.

It may be something related to the way I have a folder located. I have been too busy to backup and reinstall so am once again unable to print.

Sure wish I could find a Lucid 5.1.1 version of CUPS 1.43 that I could just reinstall over the existing install -- that should replace anything that is broken.

CUPS remains the most easily damaged and the most perplexing to repair commonly-used app in all of the Linux world. Arghhh!

i bought an eeepc 4g a year ago, i was running on linux, but i wanted to try to run on xp, i installed it thanks to a usb bootable. but my eeepc became very slow and i couldn't neither watch movies nor easily play songs on it... whatever, today i thought about restoring linux but the CD offer with my Asus didn't correctly run and i couldn't create a usb boot, i knew that linux puppy was quiet good so i downloaded the .iso and made an usb bootable everything worked correctly exept the fact that it was running on the usb and windows xp was still present filling the disk space...
my question is how can i erase windows xp and completely install linux puppy.

If you boot from a CD using the boot setting "puppy pfix=ram" Puppy will load to the RAM.

Then you can go to gparted and reformat and repartition the drive.

Or, you can go to Puppy Universal Installer and at the appropriate point in the install tell it to use the partition your MS version of windows is in and it will overwrite it.

BTW: For your Netbook you want to use Puppeee or Fluppy as they are optimized for those platforms. I am using Fluppy 005 on mine and am very pleased. Jemimah created that Puplet and is very helpful (as are others on the Fluppy threads) and very knowledgeable.

My suggestion is that you go here:

And start with a version of Puppy that is optimized for your Netbook - that should remove some of the future complications.

I have not booted from USB yet so I am not certain what is happening.

Hit F2 on bootup

then type >>>> puppy pmedia=usbflash

Make sure that you leave a space after >> puppy

Fluppy installer seems to do this automatically for USBs.

All what you need is bootup from USB and format your HDD using Gparted, then install Puppy on the HDD.

The question is:

1. What file system is better to format the partition?
2. Which is better FULL or FRUGAL install?
3. How to configure the boot loader?

I know it is confusing for new commers to Puppy.
I do not give the answer here because i have the answer in LupQ.

By the way, I recommend Pupeee or Fluppy for eeepc's.
