Skype - video problem SOLVED Subject description: skype would crash when broadcasting video
Hardware:
-Lenovo T60
-intel core duo 2Ghz
-ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128Mb
-KVM with external monitor - LG Flatron
-Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks
OS:
-puppy linux 4.2.1
-kernel 2.6.25.16
-JWM
Installation:
-Partitioned disk - 3 partitions
-Partition 1 - windows XP
-Partition 2 - Puppy Linux 4.2.1 - Full HD install - Test environment
-Partition 3 - Puppy Linux 4.2.1 - Full HD install - Prod environment
Problem:
Skype would 'crash' whenever I tried to broadcast my video stream. This was the same result using either Skype (static) 2.1.0.47 or the later 2.1.0.81.
Problem Solution:
I found that this crash was caused by the skype default 'normal' video stream size. If I 'check' the video stream size to either 'double size' or 'full screen' BEFORE broadcasting the video stream then it works perfectly and remains stable throughout the session. I also allows me to use the desktop sharing option with other linux and windows users, something which I have not been able to do before now.
I have no idea why this solution works - but have posted it here in case it is useful to others. I'd also be grateful If there is anyone with enough knowledge to explain why this works. Thanks
