Puppy-210-opera-k3b

#1 Post by Billcnz »

I uploaded a remastered iso for those who want to try. All I've changed is replaced Seamonkey with Opera and added K3B cd burner along with it's kdelibs, qt, cdrdao deps.
iso size is 87 MB
md5sum: e3a802ab1ad28477b5c2ee75bfed2d45

Sorry about the popups on the download site, but it's a free server :)

ISO created with remasterpup2c.sh from Dougal

:) Great work.
Does the K3B cd burner support light scribe DVD burning yet?

Thanks for the mirror's Mark.

Lobster, I don't think this version of K3B does light scribe (at least I couldn't find it :)) It's version 0.12.16 from Slackware 10.2, but I see K3B is up to ver 1.0 beta2 now, it's development is moving really fast. I will try upgrading at some stage.

Billcz i tried your puppy remastered but i incurred in some annoying problems:
first of all Xmms doesn't play streams well, keeps skipping and rebuffering (normal 2.10 doesn't do this)
second libSSL are needed for gaim to connect to MSN and they are not available, so i couldn't connect to MSN..
beside that it works pretty fine.

Thanks for the feedback. You should have /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8 and also libssl.so.0.9.7 and libssl.so.0 are symlinks from it, do you know the exact file name gaim needs? The latest versions of those two apps do compile OK (you would need to have devx_210.sfs to try the ./configure --prefix=/usr/local && make && make install). I was surprised at the size of gaim, source was 8.3 MB but it's build directory grew to 125 MB during compile. I didn't test my install for connecting to msn as I don't have any chat accounts ( I type too slow and never know what to say  ). I might get my daughter to test, she was complaining her msn was broken on the Windows pc.

Gaim needs the ssl libs from Seamonkey to use MSN. So you can either a) install Seamonkey or b) grab all of the libs out of the Seamonkey package that are needed and place them somewhere Gaim can find them.

Thanks Nathan,
I could have left Seamonkey in but was just trying to trim a bit after adding kdelibs.

I'd leave Seamonkey out and just put the ssl libs back. Or tell everybody that MSN is crap and not to use it  But seriously there's so many ways to chat online why use the one invented by Microsucks?

Looking good for burning, (Gotta love K3b). I don't seem to be able to open gxine either, missing librarys. Amazing how many apps depend on "moz" libs.

Mut also seems to have a problem with my cd drive and will not recognize a data cd, reports it as a dvd. It does mount correctly with Puppy Drive Mounter though.

Amarok

#11 Post by Melmo »

Billcnz,

With all the dependancies you've added for K3B puppy now has everything required to use Amarok. Its a good music player, that is also compatable with uploaing and downloding music from an iPod.

Between:
Opera (Or Firefox), K3B, Amarok & OpenOffice puppy will be as fully featured as most peoples windows installs. But much cooler and faster.

Just a thought...

Good job, Bill ! There are couple things, though. It seems to me that Opera works much slowlier than SeaMonkey. K3b rocks! I don't have any success with printing so far. In Puppy 210 it was just fine.
I think 200 version had some problem with printing because of perl (if I'm right).

k3b and amarok

#13 Post by ortloffa »

I installed both k3b and amarok according to the discussion.

In k3b it seems to work ok, except for mp3s. When i try to move mp3 into the audio cd for copy, I get a window that says "unsupported format. when i check the plugin config, I dont see anything about mp3s. What do i need to install? I am almost there, I think.

Amarok: when i start it I get the splash screen then the line:
amarokapp: /usr/lib/./libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.4' not found (required by /root/my-applications/lib/libtag.so.1)

I tried installing the stdc++ pup in the pup downloader, but it did not help.
I also originally got a message about libtag, but pup downloader solved that.

use this script to start amarok:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/root/my-applications/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

amarok "$@" &
Save it as
/usr/bin/amarok
Make it executable:
chmod 755 /usr/bin/amarok

/usr/bin is searched before /opt (KDE-folders), so if the command "amarok" is executed, this script will run, use the correct library, and then execute amarok from KDE.

Did not try myself as I don't have amarok, but I think it should work.

:) A lot of people like k3b and in the future (nearly bought some lightscribe disks yesterday) I for one will need what it plans to do.

Lightscribe is a CD DVD capacity to burn images onto special CD's in monochrome. Not all DVD's have this facility and there is no Linux facility for this (yet)

Is it worth having a k3b dotpup? This will make it an independent option ;)

Amarok

#16 Post by ortloffa »

When I used the script I get:
/usr/bin/amarok: /usr/bin/amarok: /bin/bash: bad interpreter: Argument list too long
i tried changing the last line of the script to read

Code: Select all

/opt/kde/bin/amarok "$@" &
but I got the same thing I got before:
Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
amarokapp: /usr/lib/./libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.4' not found (required by /root/my-applications/lib/libtag.so.1)

Perhaps it needs an different version from whats in the library pup?

I'm just creating a new .sfs of kdelibs, kdebase, k3b and amarok based on the new KDE 3.5.5.

Will try it myself then.

Might not be available today yet, but tomorrow.

If I find a solution for the amarok startscript, I will post it.
Alternatively you could try this:
replace /usr/lib/libstdc++ files with the ones from /root/my-applications/lib/
But ATTENTION: as these are new in Puppy, they seem to be required by some of Puppys applications.
If you replace them with the other libs, those applications might stop working.
BACKUP those files, to be able to restore them easily!

ortloffa:

please uninstall your taglib-dotpup, and install this one instead:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Multimedia/Taglib-1.4.pup

And delete my script /usr/bin/amarok, it is not needed anymore I think.

Are you able to play musik with amarok?
I can choose no soundsystem-engine :?
I currently test KDE 3.5.5.

What did you choose as soundsystem?
