LanPuppy How To?
1) PupServer is booting off a USB, & on HD second part. with XP on the first?
2) 3 LanPuppy PCs booted from the PupServer on the USB?
3) Does the HD PupServer boot the LanPuppy clients also?
PupServer has to have network setup just like any other Puppy distro.
4) Any trouble with PupServer fitting into the network?
5) Other PCs (XP, etc.) still work with no problems?
6) LanPuppy client PCs have Firefox web access as soon as they boot? (no setup)
If all of this is YES, then it truly is an astounding success!
CONGRADULATIONS!!!
7) Add/Remove "Users" & "Hosts" works with PupServer's "LanPuppy Admin."?
It's a PupServer desktop icon at the lower left above the Start button.
If a PupServer PC has a floppy drive, try making a PXE boot floppy.
Put the floppy in a cilent PC with a floppy drive & Test boot it... LET ME KNOW.
Update: I've got most of the sfsManager working, it's pretty complicated.
There's still alot of parts to it & it'll take awhile till it's ready for testing.
Sounds great! Terry

There are 4 files: /usr_cram.fs /pupSRV /pupserv/vmlinuz /pupserv/image.gz
The other files in /pupserv are for DOS booting.
The kernel panic is classic for PUppy on a USB drive... it can't find itself.
Even though it just booted from the USB, it can't find it again while booting.
I modified the boot code & got another Puppy version booting that way.
Barry's USB code works fine, but it doesn't always get run... so it fails.
I can't help you much here, if you have a HD part. to use, FAT32 it!
A HD just like a USB drive, they both boot easily when they're FAT32 formated.
May folks report ext2, ext3, & NTFS won't boot on a USB drive or flash cards.

Regrets... Seems to be more the way of things, unemployment & homelessness.
Don't get me started... I'm furious about direction the U.S. gov. has lead the world.
Update:
I'm working on a self-extracting file to install the next software release.
It should make installing LanPuppy & PupServer packages a snap... hopefully.
I'm making it so you can choose the drive & partition for each of these dirs.:
/pupserv, /lanpup, /homes, /tftpboot, /docs, /public
sfsManager is coming along, it's to be the cornerstone of LanPuppy...
Dougal, amish, WhoDo, & a few others are talking about a base Puppy distro.,
just one browser (Firefox, or Opera, etc.) & media apps. (Mplayer & XMMS).
For all other apps., it swaps SFS files in & out, and LanPuppy can too!
The SFS files. would group common apps.: Office, Graphics, Games, Media, etc.
That's about it... Hang in there! Terry B.

LANpuppy HOWTO
I really like Puppy, I work in a Windows world so I have a puppy looking out of the window.
I use PXE at my work to load GHOST images. It is pretty easy using tftpd32 http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32.html and with the demo of emBoot Network Tools http://www.emboot.com/products_NetworkBootTools.htm you can set up a PXE with a menu that will allow you to choose what boot image you want to load. I haven't figured out how to do this on Linux yet. I also need to get a boot image for Linux working. I currently use it to load a DOS boot disk (Bart's Boot Disk) http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/network . I thought about modifying Wakepup floppy boot image but that seemed a real "Round Robin" way of getting where I am going.
I was going to see if I could modify a syslinux image but then I decided to search the Puppy forums a bit more and found this discussion on LANpuppy.
One thing I don't see is links to the files for LANpup.
The thing I think would work best is to load a basic os and mount a network share and get the rest. Is this what LANpuppy does?
I have lots of ideas for manipulating the deployment once I have it set up. such as loading the different pup001 file per user or per machineand storing it back to the network.
I am just not as familiar with manipulating the boot image for linux as I am for DOS.
Can someone post links to LANpuppy images?

In case I am missing it, is this the latest version posted?

Hi netjess; The original LanPuppy install files are all that's available right now.
A newer alpha version was on MU's site, but in the Host changeover it was lost.
The old version works well, but if you can, turn off the DHCP of any router.
I'm moving to release another alpha, but I haven't integrated all that I've done.
The PupServer is still the same: Samba & DHCP-PXE boot server packages.
LanPuppy's changed the most: Login to user HOME spaces, & Admin. GUI.
It won't release quickly as there's still alot to do, & I'm trying to fix Puppy-2.
Ultimately I want the LanPuppy clients to be Puppy-2, but changes are in order.
Just watch this Suggestions forum a post of the alpha release announcement.
