Kdenlive 0.7.8 (rev. 4559) and KDE 4.4.4 SFS

#1 Post by battleshooter »

KDE4 for Lupu 528 now available here

SFS Download

md5sum: 59d0f036d307567718c9003139bdfb23

Download link for Quirky 1.20:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... uirky-1.2/

This is in a way, a standalone Kdenlive package for Quirky. But at the same time, it's not a cut down KDE libs deal. It has a working KDE desktop, with basic applications like Dolphin, Konqurer, and Konsole.

Headers are all included so add the Quirky devx file and you're already to compile KDE apps or more modules. I've already done KDE_Multimedia if anyone's interested in that I'll upload it.

Pet packages coming along soon. But it might be a better deal for me to tar it, but either way, I'll try and make something available for full installations.

If you want to have a shot at the KDE desktop, just exit to prompt and type (make sure KDE is in capital) :

Code: Select all

startx KDE
For the uninitiated:
Kdenlive is a free open-source video editor for GNU/Linux and FreeBSD, which supports DV, AVCHD (experimental support) and HDV editing. Kdenlive relies on several other open source projects, such as FFmpeg and MLT video framework. It is an intuitive and powerful multi-track video editor. An old screen shot, but it still basically looks the same, but there are more themes:
Image

Known Issues:

Shutdown from KDE desktop menu doesn't work due to bypassing KDM
Most of Puppy's menu entries in the KDE menu are in "Lost and Found" due to different format issues
Konqueror sometimes can be unstable and the font can look awful
Starting Kdenlive from the menu gives an error, but continues fine. Calling Kdenlive from command line or directly clicking on the bin doesn't generate the error. Must be something with the .desktop file.

Anyway, enjoy! Next project? Probably Rosegarden...

separated the audio from an mp4 and then exported the audio into a wav file in minutes after first use which is something i couldn't figure out how to do in openshot.

Awesome, glad to hear it was useful for you Aarf, as a point of curiosity, were you using Quirky? I thought you used Lupu? Thanks for the feedback!

Hi battleshooter,
Thank you for building this for Quirky. It must have taken quite a bit of time getting everything compiled and working. I hope you don't mind, I pruned out the Qt and KDE components to make an alternate SFS for the latest Lighthouse with KDE, and am starting to learn how to use Kdenlive.

I noticed the latest source at Kdenlive web site is v. 0.7.7.1, yet Help | About displays 0.7.8 rev. 4559--even better! Anyway it is working great so far.
Thanks again,
TazOC

i normally use puppeee but puppeee bootmanager doesnt see the kdenlive.sfs so I used quirky 120 as recommended.

Hi Tazoc,

Of course I don't mind :) It's an honor to be of service ;)

Actually, I noticed your SFS is 94MB, that's pretty big without KDE and QT, did you add anything to it? I added up the size of Kdenlive without KDE on my computer and it ended up being only around 19MB (In pet form). Of course it's a high possibility I forgot to include something in my add up, but 94MB, wow that sounds big, even last time when I did Kdenlive for LHP it came up to 69MB, including FFMPEG and not stripped.

I'll see about posting an SFS of the Kdenlive pets mentioned or I'll just upload them and let you have a look yourself, it'll save you the trouble of trying to figure out what to prune, 94MB seems way overkill, just trying to save people's bandwidth :).
I noticed the latest source at Kdenlive web site is v. 0.7.7.1, yet Help | About displays 0.7.8 rev. 4559--even better!
Ah yes, that would probably be because I compiled it from SVN. I should probably update the main post title... thanks :)

Ah ok, I got mixed up with the Ubuntu Studio thread thinking that was Lupu and a few other confusing things which led me to make a peculiar assumption  . Anyway... thanks for that :)

Hi Battleshooter,
I don't recall if I added anything but 94M for Kdenlive is OK with me. I left in virtuoso, boost and everything in /usr/include, just in case it is desired for compiling. Next time I'll try to make a separate Kdenlive dev pack. With KDE 4.4 I've found that removing packages often breaks something I want to have. But strip --strip-unneeded is a good idea I think. I'm working on a couple of scripts (one for binaries and one for libs) that scan recursively for anything unstripped and strips those only.

My last KDE4 add-on has a truckload of software and dependencies at 443M! Yes it does use bandwidth but KDE is optional in LHP, and for me at least my Site5 hosting account covers it so far. In fact Site5.com now offers unlimited B/W and storage for only $4.95/mo (24mos.) And fortunately big hard drives are cheap nowadays.

Ah yes. I know what the problem is. (Or at least I have a very strong suspicion).

Typing

Code: Select all

ffmpeg
into a terminal, what do you get?

I suspect ffmpeg has been messed up, maybe by different versions, causing it to not start up. As ffmpeg is what Kdenlive uses to access media, if it stuffs up, Kdenlive will give your error. I'll try and download Puppeee and see if I can pin point the problem. The SFS isn't really designed for other Puppy versions, but the fact it starts up probably indicates it'll run fine after ffmpeg has been fixed up.

puppeee1 without kdenlive sfs loaded, and with kdenlive loaded and running essentially the same output:

Ok, thanks Aarf.

I won't be able to answer you today, but sometime soon I'll download Puppeee and have a look at the ffmpeg, I think it'll just require some sym linking.

Actually, looks like I've been able to find time.

This is Quirky's FFMPEG with all dependencies included. With the pet installed, Kdenlive runs fine, which is awesome, another platform option available. :)

Let me know, if goes, but I'm pretty sure it will.

yes now works for me in puppeee,
playback of imported video inside kdenlive is a little choppy, and the rendered output sound track cutout at less than halfway but that may be video specific.
video test file is the opera /tmp file of lobsters Lucid dream
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xb_nUn5OMbs
when using opera you can pull its local temporary file out of /tmp as something like FlashXXXxxx then play it in gnome-player, however it will not play in gxine. kdenlive will import it and render it to mp4. gxine will then play it with noted partial soundtrack. it being untitled.mp4

Code: Select all

# ffmpeg -i untitled.mp4

will ask jemimah if she is interested in updating puppeee to the ffmpeg of/with your pet.

note that sound for untitled.mp4 is all the way through when played in mplayer-post-1.0rc3-svn-31792-i486.pet but only partly through in gxine.
mplayer-post-1.0rc3-svn-31792-i486.pet also plays the original flashxxx straight out of /tmp

Thanks for the detailed bug report Aarf. I'll try and find some time to figure out the fix. Hope it's not too pressing at the moment :?

only a matter of interest and testing for me, or bugs for the individual program developers to look into.
