No sound in lucid-puppy 5.0x

#1 Post by arnold »

Hi everybody,

Some netbooks/notebooks with a Realteck-chip will not give sound.
The reason is a missing default-value. Repair is very simple:

1. Run alsa-sound wizard and confirm every question with "Ok".
2. Open a terminal-window. Type: alsamixer <enter>. If you see
two volume-controls (Headphone + Speaker), the speaker-volume
is set to zero.
Change to the right box with left/right-cursor, and then change
the volume with up/down-cursor. Exit with <Escape>.
3. Now, you have sound !!! And this new value will be stored for next
bootup.

Best regards,
arnold

I had that problem with my Aspire One. There's an easier way to fix it, though. Right click on the volume icon to open Retrovol, and you can set the speaker volume from there.

Excellent advice, arnold. I'm running on a new Toshiba laptop and had sound on Windows and on Ubuntu, but not on Puppy. This made it happen.

(Right-clicking on the speaker icon and adjusting the volume, as TomRhymer suggested, didn't make a difference.)
