What Puppy version are you using? Did you install a driver package for this printer?

:D :D I also use the same printer tife at 5:01 puppy, the way that I use are as follows:
1. smbc_backend-1.0 install package (the printer CUPS Backend)
2. install package-3.10.2-dynppd hpijs (HP Printer Driver)
3. plug the printer cable to the PC
4. click on Menu / System / System status and config / CUPS manage printing /
5. Administration / Add Printer / next residence follow the commands that are / is completed

Nb : My PC specs: IP3 600 MHz, SDR 256, 10 GB HDD, VGA 32 Mb :(

Are you connecting this printer directly with a USB cable? If so, you don't need the smbc backend. It is just for printers connected to a networked Windows machine.

Connect and turn on the printer.

Click on the CUPS Administration tab.

Select Find New Printers.

Your printer should be auto-detected.
