The hunt and peck method.
In this particular case; removing pwidgets empties the folder
at usr/local/apps/wallpaper.

Mount the cd and its' lupu.sfs and copy its' wallpaper folder to the
above spot.
Works like a charm! Thank you, rjbrewer.

(Lot less stressful than doing a reinstall)

It took longer for me to find the missing file than to do the upgrade
method, and I'm not completely sure whether pwidget had more
files dependent on it that were removed.

It's not a bad idea to make another little practice install.

There are a few widgets that I'm going to use now that it's not
a big deal anymore.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

Right! I wondered how I'd know if anything else was effected by PWidgets.
This may sound crazy but is there a way to do a *checksum* on a system when it closes down? Then the next time something like this happens and a repair is made a comparison could be made to make sure the system has same number of bytes as before the event?

OK, so later in the day, maybe...I'll experiment with second install *upgraded*.

:D

What's not "a big deal anymore?"

Is there a fix into PWidgets to correct this issue of deleting shared resource files in *full* installs when *uninstalling* PWidgets?
Edit: Actually, seems like the fix is needed in Puppy Package Manager not PWidgets. Other apps may also take out shared files when *uninstalled*. A table check of shared files seems in order when working with a *full* install? But, what do I know...

No; it's not a big deal because it's easy to fix.
Very few people use "full" installs of Puppy; it's dominated by
"frugal geeks", and any little workaround for "full" users can be
considered a triumph.

Nathan Wallpaper Gone After Pwidgets

#22 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hello, rjbrewer :)

If Pwidgets is installed into lupu-528 that is on a USB flash drive will it upset the apple cart like it did in a full install to a HDD?
I am referencing your post:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 206#544206
I've installed lupu-528 on a USB stick.
The stick runs in a machine that has no hard drive, only RAM.
I'm hesitant to try Pwidgets again because of the issue of it's wiping out Nathan's Wallpaper.

Thank you in advance, so good to have our forum back.

Hello,
It's quiet out there?
Anybody there?

EDIT UPDATE:
Well, I took a chance on my last USB stick all tricked out with lupu-520 and installed PWidgets. So far, so good. Nathan's wall paper is still there. :)
