List Your Firefox Add-ons

#1 Post by DaveS »

Addblock Plus https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/ though I build up filters myself instead of using Easylist as a huge set of filters slows Firefox down.
FlashBlock https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433/ of course
Compact Menu https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4550/ as I like almost no toolbars taking up screenspace.
Fission https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1951/ which is just a visual, but hey, I like it.
New Tab Homepage https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/777/ which opens each new tab with my homepage loaded, which in my case is a speed-dial.
Yahoo Mail Notifier https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1264/, which does exactly what it says on the tin, and rather well......
There is also a general version configurable to most web mail servers, and a Google specific one too.

All of these are available for Seamonkey except New Tab Homepage (Seamonkey has its own built in), and Fission.

DaveS I use very similar add-ons as you. the first ones i add everytime are
flashblock
adblock
tiny menu
fission (so i can hide my status bar)---more screen space

if i am going to use it some more then i would customize further with

hide caption titlebar plus (gets rid of the title bar across the top-more screen)
classic compact theme
omnibar
down them all
webmail notifier
organize search engines

and i am not sure why but
grease monkey
and moonlight

Hi,

Of those not so far mentioned:

(1) Default Full Zoom Level
Easily sets/changes/remembers individual page zoom levels.

(2) WOT (Web of Trust)
Good, though not always perfect, security/trustworthiness status.

My regards

For Firefox, just select from the menu tools>add-ons and a dialogue will open showing your installed add-ons, themes, plugins etc. The command you are refering to, about:config, when typed into the url bar will bring up the Firefox/Seamonkey config file in the browser window....care...here be dragons!

abushcrafter,

In Seamonkey 2.0.4, about:plugins lists and gives details on plugins that are installed and enabled. To see all plugins that are installed and (and to enable/disable them), use the menu entry posted by DaveS.

noscript is the first thing I always install. It takes a pessimistic approach to Javascript and Flash and disables them by default until you specifically allow a website. It was designed for security, but it also makes browsing so much faster not having to download all the crazy animated advertisements. Of course, there have been the few times when I've had to stop and wonder why a website was "broken" and then realized I needed to click on the "Snake with a ban symbol" logo in the lower right hand corner to allow scripts to run.
