Fluppy 013
On the laptop where I had previously attempted to use CUPS (via Fluppy 013 with the P1006 printer) I ran the new PET.
I then tried a Test Print and did not get the error, it displayed that it was printing, then that disappeared and reappeared in the list of completed print jobs - the problem is - the printer never responded at all.
I power-cycled the printer in case there was debris in the buffer, no joy.
I rebooted and tried again, same result.
I then applied the PET to my Netbook, on which CUPS had not previously been used.
I used Find New Printers and accepted all of the defaults.
Same results when I attempted a Test Print.
WDYT?

Just tried 02 and 3 on both machines - no joy.
It's late here, will look for other print SFS's to try tomorrow.
Ahhh, the endless joy of CUPS ...

Yes, I believe so, but I don't recall when.
My slight uncertainty is that I have one of the several PC's here still on dpup (haven't gotten around to upgrade it) and that could have been where the P1006 worked then stopped working - but I am pretty sure I recall thanking Jemimah for Fluppy and a working CUPS with the P1006.
I have a couple projects to attend to this morning - then will either try to find my post in the archives where I described it working then breaking - or will look for 4.SFS and try it (since 02 and 3 didn't work). Was there an initial un-numbered SFS?

I am sorry, somehow I missed that!
Do I need to uninstall anything or will your fooxxx PET overwrite the old stuff?

I ran the install on that again, just to be sure.rcrsn51 wrote:Just install it.
Make sure that you still have the foomatic-filters-4.0.4-i486.pet installed from the previous page.
Then I ran the new one.
I ran /etc/init.d/cups restart.
Same result.
Says it is printing but the printer does not respond.
I presumed that the cable and printer are OK since the Netbook used the same connection last evening and automatically recognized the connected printer.
So then I restarted the computer and the printer and HOORAY!
IT WORKS!!
My wife is very pleased ... of course now she wants me to get the HP officejet 4125 working ...
THANKS!!!

OK, that's good to know.rcrsn51 wrote:It's not a matter of restarting CUPS. You need to restart the printer - or at least unplug and replug its USB cable. This is how Puppy rediscovers the printer and then downloads the required firmware file into the printer's memory.edoc wrote:I ran /etc/init.d/cups restart.
The instruction in the PET were not quite as clear as you have now made it.
Thanks again!
Now, with fear and trembling, on to the 4215 ...

4215 ... dyslexic fingers ... or failure to learn typing in high school.rcrsn51 wrote:Is this a 4125 or a 4215? You have stated both above. However, Fluppy has an HP driver package built-in that may support your printer.edoc wrote:Now, with fear and trembling, on to the 4215 ...

To Jemimah or anybody that can help with Pwidgets.
I use Fluppy 13 on my Acer D250
and it fails to get Analog clock or any of them to show up on the screen when I make use of theme "Love" on background?
What could I be doing wrong? Sure I should test with other backgrounds.
I go do it now.
Edit that did not do it. It says one should use Rox Desktop and that is what I have that was what was set up as default it seems. But Okay I reboot and maybe that is needed.

I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Problem with full install
To Jemimah or anybody that can help with full install
I have been using Fluppy 013 for a while. Added Chinese language pack and other packages, remastered it and used the remastered copy on several several machines successfully. Recently I bought a new PC without any operation system but an empty 500G hard disk. I tried to do a full install and used grub4dos to make the disk bootable.
When I boot, grub runs successfully, giving me a list of boot choices I set before. Then it displayed one or two lines and came to a halt with sh-3.00#.
With a usb keyboard, I cannot key in anything and the machine seems to have gone dead. With a ps2 keyboard, I can type in commands. An ls let me see the directories in the disk. It cannot run xorgwizard, probably it has not loaded it. xwin gives an error saying that it cannot a read-only file /etc/.xloaded.
I tried to use a fresh download of fluppy 013.iso or .zip to do the full installation. I also try to do it on several machine. No luck.
I suspect a bug in the full install procedure or in vmlinuz. I knew very little linux and puppy to get any further. Can anybody help. Thank you.

full install of Fluppy
I don't have experience with a full install
but the first thing I would suspect is an
improper kernel line in my grub configuration file.
(Note that for grub2 it is called the linux line
because the word 'kernel' is replaced by the word 'linux')
You must point the bootloader to the right
partition
For instance if you have installed in hda9
you put root=/dev/hda9 in the kernel line
Here are the links to explain grub

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... c&start=48
Other than that I know nothing

Full install boot up and stuck with sh-3.00#
I think I have get grub to direct to the correct partition, as after the booting hung, I do a ls and can see the directories of the full install fluppy.

My menu.lst file is as follows. It is generated automatically by grub4dos and I have edited the title and commented out the window boot section. Frugal boot is OK.
