Compiz, Rox

#1712 Post by yerc1 »

Thanks heaps to Jemimah for introducing me to beryl-compiz!
I think it was with Fluppy 08 that i tried beryl for the first time.
Although I soon reverted to icewm, i would revisit beryl to experiment with what it has to offer.

I've done a new usb frugal install of Fluppy 13 with compiz and likes the default Rox panel instead of Cairo dock. If i want to change to Cairo dock and back to Rox panel, the Cairo dock switcher comes very handy - how easy is that? My compliments to Jemimah for keeping us users in mind...

I did find out that Compiz has changed the desktop right click menu. Gone are the Applications menu and in its place looks like the rox filer menu(?) This behaviour is preserved even when changing to icewm/openbox/flwm. I've looked at forum for compiz and rox in search of a solution but could not find a similar question asked.

Could somebody tell me how to get the Applications menu back?

It's a setting in the ROX options. Go to Compatibility and check "Pass backdrop mouse clicks to the window manager".

Neither ALT+F4 nor CTRL+ALT+F4 closes a window in my beloved Fluppy 013.
Bug or feature?.

Here's the latest Midori.
http://puppeee.com/files/misc/midori-update/

You need to install all 4 pets. You should probably restart X immediately after installing due to the glib update.

I think this one's a real winner!

This package is for updating Fluppy13 only.

Ctrl-Alt-F4 is supposed to work. You can modify it by editing the IceWM config file. The line to modify is

Code: Select all

KeyWinClose="Ctrl+Alt+F4"

If you go to http://webcamplaza.net Parole generates an error about plugins.

Could that be related to the other updates to Midori?

I did not get these errors before.

Probably the libsoup update broke gstreamer. I'll take a look.

In icewm & openbox, checking that option restored the Applications menu when right-clicking on the desktop. Is it possible to achieve the same within flwm and compiz?

Even without installing the updates, I am getting similar errors.

I have a frugal usb install of Fluppy 13 with the following sfs (Jemimah's latest) loaded:
- python
- compiz
- wine
- firefox

You can't in Compiz.

There's a script /usr/local/bin/flwm-menu that I used in the past to build a an application menu for flwm, but it uses the jwmrc to get the menu entries and jwm is not there anymore. So it would be necessary to fix the script to use the IceWM menu file.

I have some generic (alpha quality) code for parsing the desktop files to generate a generic gtkdialog menu ... gtkdialog runs pretty slowly with that much info, but the script could be adapted to pretty much any menu system. I'll see if I can post it when I get home this evening if anyone is interested in trying to implement a more direct method of generating the menu.

I do know that the package repo only has a handful of packages at this time. Some of the categories are empty. I thought that the list was empty at first as well so I refreshed the package list and went through each category one at a time. Some categories were empty and others had one or more packages listed.

The repo is at http://puppeee.com/files/pet_repo/

I personally do not see this as a problem. Fluppy is still under development.

Speaking of this ...
Internet - google-talkplugin-1.8.0 (must delete!)
If I wanted to remove anything containing the text "google" in the filename - what is the recommended way to do that so that nothing else is harmed in the process?

Just delete everything I find with that string using "Pfind"?

The bootflash script seems to go astray i fluppy-013.

After the script is run, GParted reports: Partition unallocated and an error splash screen is shown

Running the lupu script in lupu-520 gives the correct output..

OK. Thank you. I have another problem. It's not vital, but it is annoying. Startmount doesn't work. Neither in Puppy 5.12 nor in Fluppy. When i run startmount it says probing hardware (or something like that) and it chrashes. Maybe I can make fluppy mount my drives on startup by editing mtab or fstab? I'm a newbie so I don't know exactly how to do that.
