Hi Iguleder,
Sorry to hear about the Hd probs, - Wanted to thank you for the 3 kernel captures, and let you know i have the fresh copies of the iso's if you need them at some point, and can place them on a server.
- The Gateway W340ua booted all 3, the most recent kernels did audio, realtek 8185 wireless and Nvidia Ethernet, all did 1024x768x24 Xorg lcd
Again, Thank You for your foresight in producing these.

Puppy 4 Forever (Puppy 4.x snapshot, 3 kernels)
Puppy 4.x Retro-Retro
I've clearly mis-diagnosed the problem. It's doubtful
that there is any problem with the pup-432.sfs file as
I first speculated. It is probably something far simpler
that only 'manifests' in my particular type of frugal
installation.
I downloaded a fresh copy of Iguleder's Retro Retro
.iso, re-extracted the files to a folder and manually
edited Grub's Menu.lst file to boot.
All works well up to this point where this message
sequence is what appears on the screen:
- - - - - - - - - -
Loading drivers needed to access disk drives.....
Searching for Puppy files in computer disk drives...pup-432.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial-ramdisk console...
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

I've manually installed 'Retro' in the same fashion
and it works splendidly; I'm using it now.
I've only experienced this problem with 'Retro-Retro'
for some strange reason.
Any ideas anyone?

4.x Retro Retro
I'm booting from a FAT32 filesystem by means of
Grub4Dos (Win98FE)
I manually install the files from the .iso to a folder
and edit MENU.LST to initiate bootup.
Your version of 4.x Retro boots just fine and works
well. It is only the Retro Retro which is unable to
boot.
A solution to this problem would be greatly
appreciated.
Many thanks!

Update: Attempts to 'install' other derivatives frugally
has ascertained that this is a problem shared by
several. Still attempting to discover the source of
the problem - it may be the initrd.gz file...
Have any others experienced this problem?

Browser Error
I have installed an application (ELDY) on a bootable USB that worked with no problems in 4.3.1
Under the forever version, when I call up the internet in Eldy., which calls the browser Puppy uses as default, I get the following error.
invalid chrriis,dj,nativeswing.components.NativeWebBrowser(1/17549717)
Reason The native peer died unexectedly
Problem happens with both the defautl browser and with Firebox.
The application can be found at
http://download.eldy.eu/eldy22.tar.gz
The developers of Eldy have asked that create a puppy/eldy, and I would rather not use the 4.3.2.version or the old 4.3.1 version.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Thom

No news? Was the project abandoned?

Iguleder wrote:Abandoned, yep ... 4.3.1 is too outdated, nothing works well anymore. You can try Kinda Lucid Puppy (a puplet built from it), has Opera and updated multimedia stuff
Sad to hear it, Iguleder. I do not like LuPu... maybe I can try Quirky...
Thanks a lot for your efforts, anyhow
