This may sound kinda stupid but why not try a private Yahoo group. It beats the hell out of IRC.
At least it did back in my very early years on ebay when things needed to be kept private.

You hung in there well, jemimah. I think a private group is essential for further discussion. At least the trolls can be kept out by requiring a login from the group owner.
Ed, can you organise that please??? Advise devs by PM and accept requests for access by users seeking to give input. We're not trying for secrecy ... just sanity!

Well, as meetings go...
Great attendance though, should be good if CrustyLobster2 ( ) can set up an invitation style meeting.
Cheers

We may set that up in future
I use the name CrustyLobster2 on IRC - but the name is not registered
I could change my name etc
We may try using VOIP / Skype in future

It is a known problem
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=51355
We can indeed try
The IRC channel is what it is allowed to be
I have been there several times over the last few weeks
and it is largely but not completely unmoderated

IRC is great and a really good way to setup a meeting... There are allot of useful tools to be used.. Yet it seems like a little knowhow is required.
I have done some pretty crazy stuff on IRC, and if the database of the forum can be accessed with ease, we can set up a bot to allow forum logins in IRC...
The following is a suggestion of how it could have been setup.
1. Users can "register" with the bot to join the dev channel. A unregistered user is kicked/banned from channel until registered. This can be hard to setup and might be better to skip this step... But it would allow valid authentication.
2. Ranks are set out in the channel. Chairperson along with the rest gets voice-ops... (thats everyone that has some form of maturity)
3. mode +m is set so that only voiced and above users can speak. The rest are free to listen.
With this setup, the chairperson can speak alone and open the meeting. He can say whats on his heart and get the show on the road. Whenever community input is required, channel is set to -m and everyone can have their say. +m would be set when order needs to be regained...
These scripts I created in mIRC a few years back... I still see mIRC as the easiest fast way to create a bot. There truly are a number of features one can add...
I know this has nothing to do with Puppy but I really think the next meeting should be done in such a manner... If anyone requires advice on this or needs help setting it up ill be honored to help.

Hey ppl, sory I missed it, last time I checked on wiki it said 7 am GMT it was rescheduled aparently to 5 am, so yeah I'm late but I did read the logs
Regarding identity teft
Register your nickname on freenode and set nick protection so if you don't identify in some time it gets changed by services automatically
/msg nickserv help for instructions on registering nick / setting enforcer
There's also this thread "Puppy Community register" so you can tell which nick you are using on IRC
Doing /msg nickserv info <nick> will tell you if user is registered and identified to services
#puppylinux can't be set mode to registered users only because there are many "pupusers" and others that are joining all the time for the first time and not registered, but if you want another channel it's not hard to open, just join it and if doesn't already exist it will be created automatically, then afterwards you can register it with chanserv /msg chanserv help
So yeah, it's not really hard to identify yourself

I would think that there is a way for John M to set up a sub forum for developers that is private in the same way it is done in my old vBulletin. Even Flash would lnow about this to some degree.

How about being technical Chairperson?
You could set up the next meeting . . . maybe with dejan555 [official name]
Maybe someone will be happy to assist you?
You can PM them [or me] if you need help
the full text 'meeting' (including fake ID's) is now here:
Warning may contain obscenities . . .
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/meeting30May2010Text
in the above text CrustyLobster2 is the only name I used
I have now registered the name like so
Click on freenode
type
/nick mynickname
where nickname is your preferred name
(you will be prompted if not available)
then register that preference
/REGISTER <password> <email>
you will then get an email
and you can then follow the instructions
| Quote: | donotreply@freenode.net
In order to complete your registration, you must send the following
command on IRC:
/msg NickServ VERIFY REGISTER mynickname esdfsdfsdyigh |
