Yes, it looks like the permissions on /tmp are changed when a save file is created and rebooted. We will see if there is a reason for that. I think an Instant Update could change the permissions if you downloaded and installed it after booting the Live CD. But for now there is the workaround of saving and rebooting. I will check if that applies to saving from a live CD. Or I believe the command to change it yourself would be 'chmod /tmp 1777' which you probalby knowWhen I run Bootflash off the Live CD, it fails because ldlinux.sys is not written onto the device.
If I run syslinux manually, it throws an error message about unsafe permissions in /tmp. This is what causes Bootflash to fail.
However, once I have a frugal install with a pupsave file, it works correctly.

I deleted opera 10.11.pet and put 10.60.pet
(with jwm and icewm)
Problem with video : I get Sound but black screen video . And it was impossible to change the sound ( only maxi sound).
See : http://www.medici.tv
Full install , nvidia driver (GeForce 7600 GT)
I'm using the Opera 10.60 portable + Gstreamer-Opera.pet above URL you posted works ok here in IceWM?

remastering
Remastered Lucid 5.1 with with PANZERKOPF's updated version of Dougal's Pupremaster. (page2)
Followed DaveS advice (page 3) to avoid missing .packages list.

Worked good, now posting from remastered 5.1 with:
Gimp
Stellarium
Gpredict

Now it's OKIt is known that Opera 10.60 does not work correctly in playing multimedia with JWM, but in my tests it had worked correctly in Icewm. That is why it is in Lupu News instead of the PPM.
A new frugal install (pfix=ram) in icewm.
Idem a new full install (icewm) and now it's OK.
Thanks Playdayz and stu90
Rjbrewer originally reported this problem, but I don't know if he described the conditions under which he saw it.playdayz wrote:Yes, it looks like the permissions on /tmp are changed when a save file is created and rebooted. In my experience, it only occurs in a PUPMODE=5 environment, and "chmod 1777 /tmp" fixes it, as shinobar reported.
I can imagine a situation where someone would boot off the Live CD and immediately want to make a bootable flash drive so they wouldn't have to touch their hard drive. They would definitely need to have syslinux working.

the iso file or cd, I got the "not a bootable disk" when trying to boot
the flash.
Ldlinux was not on the flash drive.
If I used Fluppy or 4.3.1retro full installs I could make the bootable
flash from the 5.1 cd or iso file; ldlinux is on flash.

Not amused! Now trying 510. This is even more of a lemon. Even the liveCD locks up on an entirely different box : 939/3700+ after booting to the correct opening screen.
Somewhere in all those auto-video start-up sequences are gigantic gremlins.
Maybe it all works fine for some folks but the fact that it causes one individual endless grief on a plethora of utterly different machines surely should send shudders amongst the developers? Not as if I'm new around here or constrained to one machine. This is the first Puppy to fail (like this, anyway) for me in thousands of tests. It should not be possible to experience such catastrophic failure on a 'final'. Everything points to a serious video issue. Send me a revised version with the standard manual video selections &co that have been used since inception and I'll test that before moving on.

Yes!rcrsn51 wrote:@rjbrewer: Could you check the permissions of /tmp in your full install? In particular, is the "sticky" bit set?
Will the chmod command above make Bootflash work for you?
The "chmod 1777 /tmp" worked from the full install using the iso file;
not from the live cd (sr0) without a save file though.
Fluppy lets me do it from live cd using /dev/sr0.
I don't understand "sticky bit set".

I was able to boot the live CD with pfix=ram and then change the permissions on /tmp. One way to see is to right-click on the /tmp folder in Rox and select Properties. I think the 1 before the 777 sets the sticky bit.
Lupu 510 frugal with acer timelinex 5820tg using intel graphics and intel driver.. So far I have made Lupu more laptop friendly. CPU freq activated ok. I compiled kernel module to switch my ATI off because it uses almost 50 % power consumption even without using it. It worked. So battery time is almost doubled with that.
Next to get acpi working and battery status, suspend to ram possibly working, would need patching the kernel and compiling it afterwards to get modified acpi.ec loaded.
My previous attempt was not so successful, only console state worked. X didnt start ok. All those KMS and other graphics settings were too redundant in the menuconfig for me.
So devx and kernel sources loaded ok. I have still problem with successful downloading, only every 2. - 3. download MD5 sum is ok.
No complaints but havent used lupu to other things so far.
Great work !!!

Is these good GRUB settings for Lucid 5.1?
Do I need "acpi=noirq" on my laptop any more or is that an artifact of older Puppy problems?
Is "nosmp" still recommended for single-core processors?
I added "pfix=fsck" due to prior concerns with ext2, is there any value-added to using this on an ext3 partition?
Any other recommended GRUB tweaks for Lucid 5.1?

The 640x480 is necessary for normal font size on shutdown.
