@01micko
Your new wbar and wbar configuration .pets work great. A really fine addition to Lupu. Thank you.
Consider these thoughts:
1. In configuration changes, "Choose a Font" and "Choose a Font Size" need to retain changes as "Your Wbar List" does. Presently, every time "Configuration" is opened, those values have to be reset to the desired setting.
|
Now on the 'to do' list, shouldn't be difficult
| Jim1911 wrote: |
2. When your .pets are made available through Quickpet or ppm, include some basic instructions ie. restartX to start wbar, location of "Wbar Setup" in the menu, etc.
|
Will add to the pinstall splash message, which flies by too fast I admit..
| Jim1911 wrote: |
3. Include a capability to autohide wbar.
Cheers,
Jim |
Interesting, may have to wait a little while for that one.
Thanks as always for your comments Jim, I know you suggested I revisit Wbar early in in development of Lupu, well I finally got to it!
Cheers mate.

RC2 is pretty nice. Have only tested this for a short time.
It boots to 1280 x 1024 with my Intel 865G but cannot get any other resolution even after installing xorg-high pet, just black screens. Glxgears reports 520 fps though. EDIT: dropping the refresh rates from 30-85 to 30-80 cured this.
Google Earth seems perfect.
Firefox and Thunderbird install & update fine.
It would be nice to have a post-install script to give you the option of having Thunderbird as the default email client, runnable from the desktop icon. The Firefox pet does this.
Wine errors installing Gecko. Also no sound with wine. I believe there are some sound libraries that need to be included.
EDIT: wine 1.2 sfs from green_dome works perfectly.
No support for SmartLink PCI modems. I understand this to be an issue with the kernel used in Lucid? No chance for a retro kernel or the 2.6.34 kernel and a fix for this I suppose? EDIT: USR 5637 USB modem works great.
All in all this is a very nice piece of work. One of the easiest Puppies to get started with for sure. It auto-configures all of my basic stuff, display, keyboard, and network. Besides that it looks good too.

I'm not sure if you didn't see this or it didn't work. But this works for me.

libjpeg-7
Freshly baked, couldn't find previously compiled version
Oh well
Note: a requirement for Xsane scanning, saving to jpeg format.
Cheers
EDIT: someone got the fat version, I forgot to strip
2nd EDIT: removed symlink of libjpeg.so to libjpeg.so.7.0.0, leaves it pointing to libjpeg.so.62.0.0, thanks rcrsn51

1) Lupu 510 Frugal install : OK and nice
-------------------------
2) 510 Full install ext3 (multiboot) :
Only a problem with the keyboard layout('azerty' and 'fr' ) => I modified xorg.conf "xkbLayout" "fr"
and now it's OK.

I wonder why it is not here?

Is Ubuntu somewhat conservative about what they post there?
Or are they just behind on posting the updated versions?

01micko: I don't know if this is significant, but when I did my own test install of libjpeg7, I left libjpeg.so pointing to libjpeg.so.62.0.0. Xsane worked fine with this configuration.
Now libjpeg.so points to libjpeg.so.7.0.0. Might this ever be a bad thing?

They don't use it in lucid lynx 10.04. And it does not show up in Maverick either.

My Firefox does the same in icewm as well.....fine in jwm.
510 frugal - Same thing happens with opera portable running IceWM. |
Lobster, JamesC, Stu90, What are you doing in Firefox when it happens, just clicking F11 for full screen? Watching videos? How have you started Icewm? Does it happen with other browsers? Are you using any additional software than stock? Could you reboot pfix=ram and see if it still happens please?
Can anyone else create the situation?

I just tried it when I read Lobster's post. I had switched to icewm with the wm switcher as soon as I upgraded to 510 and I was here on the forum.............hit f11 and straight to the prompt. Entered "xwin" and restarted Firefox and I was back here.

I upgraded to 510
By upgraded do you mean that you upgraded from 509 or an earlier version through the Puppy upgrade process?
Could you reboot and try?
Then could you start an earlier version if you still have any and try?

Hmmm.. I'm in 510 pfix=ram right now, FF3.6.6 no problem, I wonder if it's an xrandr thing to specific chipsets or family of chipsets, tho on main box and lappy all is ok., I do however get a brief screen flicker.
On googling, the Vlc ff plugin can cause drama.. but I think it needs to be running, but I guess the plugin is running whether vlc is or not
Actually that test was in Jwm.. in Ucewm I don't get the flicker, it's actually better
