Thanks Puppyt, glad you like it.
mplayer install error I think is PPM bug, but mplayer is already included in kdpup, I think it's the same version as you want.

Thanks for such a quick response, dejan555.
I must have missed mplayer listed in the multimedia menu - but I was able to download from https://www.securehost.com/mirror/debia ... m/mplayer/. CowLog initially only gave the audio to AVI files, but it was resolved by removing a "-vo sdl" in the CowLog.kmdr file. Problem solved! (Of course - it only seems to be a problem when I'm involved  ) My only issue now is that I don't seem to have all the codecs for mplayer to enable viewing of MOV files etc - might you recommend a codec solution for that in KDPup Lite, please?

But please don't rush. Puppy seems to organically resolve itself more and more, lately...

Cheers!

EDIT: Well of course it was working! It just needed a bit of initial persistence with the MOV file rather keep deflecting to the AVI version. All Good!

Wbar-less KDPUP-lite

#168 Post by Puppyt »

Cheers again dejan555 -
at the risk of putting my feet in my mouth again, I wonder whether the wBar issue raised around page 6 of the thread was resolved for KDPUP and KDPUP-lite? I'm using lite and I cannot replicate the workaround steps suggested back then (wbon and dpupstartup files absent). I note that the config file in /root/.wbarstuff gets summarily wiped whenever wBar setup is executed - although apart from the accursed "Creampup" TTF reappearing as default text selection, all settings are otherwise retained. They just aren't implemented.
Could you please revist the issue? I'd really love to see Wbar working in Kdpup. I'm using the panel as a replacement at the moment, but still...

I also note that "Find" (ctrl-F) in Konqueror is not installed. Just a cutback of the overheads for the lite version, I wonder?

Many Thanks

Hey Puppyt glad you figured out multimedia issues.
Regarding wbar, well - wbon fix should work as far as I know I will boot kdpup lite later and test, I changed so much thing on my kdpup install that I don't remember what was it like in the first place

well after doing some research,I found this tool which works for the volume keys-keyTouch

http://keytouch.sourceforge.net/dl-keytouch.php

the tool does not create any menu entries but it does create an entry in /usr/share/applications

I seem to be having a problem with the startup folder. I put a link to keytouch and it does not run. Neither does a link to my calendar program rainlendar. But if I navigate to the startup folder and click the links they start right up

I seem to be having a problem with my wireless card on my laptop. When I first booted my card was seen but upon rebooting it is not "on" nor seen. If I take it out and put it back in it stays on and is seen. It is a d-link and when I boot it is blinking but when the screen changes to the gui/kde it stops blinking(off?).

Hi dejan555
I installed kdpup on my full install pup 520 .
I made kdpup frugal and editted grub menu.lst like this
title kdpup (on /dev/sda1)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1
initrd /kdpup/initrd.gz
Now when i reboot i get error 15 if i choose kdpup.
I did try adding rootnoverify on line 3 but no luck,i also tryed :kdpup-484 but also no good.
Now hehr are some infos maybe usefull;
I have a full 520 install on my only hdd (sda1)
The sfs file is :kdpup-484.sfs.
The save file is puppy484 and both are on sda1.
Inside puppy484 there are ;ATAHD .initrd.gz,kdpup-484.sfs and vmlinuz.
Please help on the editting of menu.lst

Got it working like this:
title kdpup 484 frugal
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
kernel /puppy484/vmlinuz pmedia=ATAH psubdir=puppy484
initrd /puppy484/initrd.gz
BTW: my machine is a 450mhz cpu and 192mb ram and running nice,520 is faster tho.
cheers.

flash comes with kdpup
For internet icon, find "Network Monitor" in network menu and enable your interface.

Hi, dejan555, thank you for this puplet.
I know you aren't going to develop it,
but I hope you will help me with two small problems.

1. What is the password for root? When I try to use the Administration section in CUPS, I can not get there without a password.

2. I changed the WM with JWM, FluxBox and IceWM by tiping the name of WM after startx command, but I can't get back to the default kde WM. I try with "startx kde" command, but it starts one of the others previosly loaded WM.

Thank you and best regards!

1. root system password is "woofwoof" but don't know if CUPS accepts it
I never needed password for setting up my printer I just go to add printer and it never asks me for password

2. "startx startkde"

Thank you for the quick respond, dejan555!

CUPS does not accept the password and I'll look for another reason for my problem with the printer and ask in another topic.
I have no problem to add a printer but it doesn't start printing.
I suspect the driver is not working well, because it is not for the same Star printer model. I hoped in administration section will be something usefull to fix the problem.

KDE starts just fine now :)

Thanks one more time!

Hey Dejan, a new Trinity release came out recently and I decided to give it a second chance with Puppy.

The old Trinity packages I made were re-packaged DEB packages and I remember your KDE SFS was smaller, so I decided to build a new Trinity on Puppy.

So far I've got Qt3, tqtinterface and aRTs, but kdelibs refuses to build for some reason. I'm trying to get it to build fine, because this one and kdebase are everything I need to have a working desktop :)

I also want to a Trinity dpup experiment, with kdpup as my inspiration

Cool Iguleder, yeah I saw your post in trinity sfs thread, hope you get them to compile. I can test your sfs on some recent puppy and new kdpup would be cool but I can't build upon recent puppies 'cause I'm pretty much stuck on dpup 485 on this machine as my main puppy. Not that I'm complaining - I have all the apps I need still working quite nicely here :D

Hi, dejan555, I'm running a remastered copy of KDPup-484 and I want to compile some packages. Do you know which version of DEVX sfs is compatible?
I found dpup-devx-484.sfs and dpup-devx-484-b4.sfs here:
http://www.smokey01.com/01micko/dpup/
http://www.smokey01.com/CatDude/temp/
But they aren't working. The SFS conversion tool gives a message they are not compatible with Kernel 2.6.30.5
Thanks!
