OK people you asked for it!
See first post for lite iso download, it's 220 MB, I even removed firefox to make it lighter but I know it's not problem for you to download and install your browser of choice!
Konqueror and dillo are still inside. ;)

I'm not a huge fan of KDE (esp. v4), but considering this is Puppy and KDE<4, damn I'm tempted! :)
Unfortunately I don't have the time these days, but I might return in a few weeks and give it a try. Bookmarking! :)

it's KDE 3.5.10 :)
Get full iso if you can or you have enough resources.
Lite one is just basic desktop without many kde apps.

Got some stuff here, not sure if they work with kdpup, haven't tried them on anything but Lupu.

At the moment I'm doing the final touches to my Trinity suite, I'll upload individual SFSs for all handy applications.

http://packages.debian.org/lenny/ktorrent2.2

Tell me if you succeded, if not I'll make package with all dependencies

Control Panel

#132 Post by davec51 »

I made a frugal install of KDPup on my P IV machine, 512mg RAM. Everything is fine, except when I open the Control Panel and click on any icon, nothing happens. So I can't set up my network, etc. Any help out there?

You don't click directly on icon in control panel, but title text under icon, also network wizard is accessible from settings menu.

Opening Iso's

#135 Post by davec51 »

One of the pleasures of Puppy Linuxes has been the ability to open an iso file and extract the files therein to a frugal install: quick, easy, and no cd needed. Now with KDPup I'm adrift; when I click on an iso file I open a burning program (K3b), which is not what I want. Is there a way with KDPup to simply unpack an iso file?

Yes, in konqueror file manager you can use Right click -> Open with then in command box put "filemnt"
If you use rox it has usual puppy file associations.

Can't Access Sites with Firefox

#138 Post by davec51 »

With KDPup and Firefox 3.6.10 I can't access some internet pages; in particular, links in Ebay and other commercial sites. I get a message that the server cannot connect. I never had this problem with other Puppies or with Firefox. Does KDPup come with some sort of firewall or other security device, and how do I turn it off?

Uh oh, um, no, there's no firewall by default but I did add the hosts file that blocks ads and similar stuff, try to replace it and see if those sites work then, here, these are contents of puppy's original hosts file:

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 localhost puppypc
192.168.1.1 pc2
192.168.1.2 pc3
192.168.1.3 pc4
hosts file location is in /etc/hosts
