Simple Technical Drawing Package wanted
Simple Technical Drawing Package wanted
Can anyone recomend a simple Technical Drawing Package, Please.
It's primary use will be Line Drawings.
It does need to be able to handle lines at any angle plus accurately measuring the length between points on those angled lines though.
Thanks

I haven't really investigated CAD on puppy, but you might like to try QCAD or gcad3d
Some people also reckon some of the vector graphics programs like inkscape or openoffice Draw or 3D modelling applications like blender can be quite good for 2D CAD work.

Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

Sweet Home 3D look like it might do the job
'You may download Sweet Home 3D to install it on your computer

I've been down this road many times. I tried qcad, gcad3d, and blender. I wasn't really impressed with qcad, gcad3d seemed interesting but confusing and lacks documentation, blender imo is good 3d for animation/ modeling but sub-par for technical drawing. In the end I just installed autocad 2006 in wine.
I did come across a few other projects that looked promising but I never tried them. Maybe they would work for you.
Freecad http://sourceforge.net/projects/free-cad/
Pythoncad http://sourceforge.net/projects/pythoncad/
Good luck!

http://www.archimedes.org.br/ might be worth a try too. It's java based, so nothing to compile or anything.

You could run EVE, through WINE... It was made by Barry K himself, I believe..

What do you mean when you say "technical drawing"? What sort of stuff are you trying to produce?scsijon wrote:down to 21ss's message

there is nothing i've found that's a simple program in the linux world,
will have a look at archamedies next
It's sounds like you don't need a full blown CAD package, but it isn't clear what you do need.

If you don't object to using wine, TurboCad Learning Edition is a very good 2D CAD program. This is the former professional edition before they went to 3D and it's freeware. I have used it professionally for years in both Windows and Puppy. The only thing that doesn't work for me in Puppy is vertical text.
This site has it and it matches the md5sum of my original setup file.

With a name like "Learning Edition", are you sure you're not violating the license by using it professionally?

Quite sure. IMSI did not place any restrictions on the usage. The learning edition is a repackaged version 4.1 professional edition. At the time it was released in late 2001 the current version was at 7.1 and IMSI thought that if people used the learning edition they would see the advantages of it, it's speed and ease of use, and stick with Turbocad for future 3D CAD software purchases.
