Audacity 2.0.5 nightly build -Precise Raring Slacko Quirky

#1 Post by don570 »

I have taken the nightly build and made packages for easy installing
in a fresh install of Precise puppy or Slacko.

Edit: Now supports - Precise Raring Slacko Quirky

Method:
I made audacity-2.0.5.pet package from downloaded
debian packages from launchpad.net and assembled with
alien2puppy script.

Then I installed the pet package and ran from terminal. I copied down
terminal complaints and added the appropriate libraries. I put these
in a separate pet package since I know from experience that if
I put all the code together in one package that there will be trouble.

The Slacko version required a separate package for their libraries which
are different from Precise Puppy. (for instance libjack was needed)

Note that these are very big pet packages.
You need 3x the size of package available in free RAM space to install
a pet package!! That's one of the advantages of using SFS files.

Here's the method I've devised.
First install an appropriate pet package full of necessary libraries
for your distro---> either Precise or Slacko or Quirky 6

This first step is very important!! Then install the audacity2.0.5
pet (or SFS).

Tested on Slacko 5.5, Precise, Precise NOP, Raring and Quirky 6.
Doesn't work on Wheezy or Carolina because they
have older glib.

Choose one of the library pets..

audacity-lib-precise-2.0.5.pet 4MB

audacity-lib-slacko-2.0.5.pet 7.58 MB

audacity-lib-quirky-2.0.5.pet 7.58 MB - EDIT: corrected to add libjpeg.so.8

_____________________________________________________

Now choose either a pet or a SFS package. The pet package
has right click menu inside.

audacity-2.0.5.pet 18.6MB -EDIT - fixed right clicks!

audacity-2.0.5.sfs 18.6MB

Optional foreign language locales:
audacity NLS-2.0.5.pet

Some notes:

This version of audacity doesn't recognize sound cards very well,
at least it didn't recognize mine. Ubuntu uses pulseaudio driver. The
solution for me was to set the audio so that a sound file will play
over the speakers using 'retrovol'. I had to select 'dmix' in precise.
In slacko the 'default' worked for sound output.

Since this is a nightly build I thought I would give my impressions.

I recorded a 2 hour file and edited it. The app was stable however
it was a bit difficult to scroll, but nothing serious. A couple of times
the cursor disappeared while playing and editing at the same time,
but it reappeared after about 4 seconds.

Markers were difficult to create if the file was playing (Cmd-M).

But overall everything went well.

I found to my surprise that the Slacko libraries would work on a
Quirky 6 installation as well. The only problem was a lack of
libjpeg.so.8 so I put in a link and it worked!!

To simplify the post I have made a pet package for the Quirky 6 libraries.

I have edited first post so that the pet packages are all available.

OOOps! I left out /usr/local/apps/Audacity file which is needed for
right clicks to work .

Pet package should have right clicks that work now!!!

SFS package doesn't have right clicks.

Update:

Quirky version needed real libjpeg.so.8 so I added it to quirky package.
Previous Quirky version created a link and that didn't work.

Audacity 2.0.5 nightly build -Precise Raring Slacko Quirky

#6 Post by michaellowe »

Hi Just installed the audacity-lib-precise-2.0.5.pet 4MB followed by the:

audacity-2.0.5.sfs 18.6MB

and the error message I got when I tried to run it in terminal is:

# audacity
audacity: error while loading shared libraries: libavcodec.so.53: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I am on lucid puppy 525

Yes I know there is a version for lucid in the PPM but it doesnt work??
besides I want to run it as sfs as I did in the past before I broke my old save file :-(

Anyone got any ideas, thanks in advance
