I'm looking to make it so changes are written back to the usb as soon as they are made, rather than syncing at shutdown. I am not concerned about read/write cycles. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, but spy1134 mentions he's not worried about the read/write cycles.Dewbie wrote:This thread might be helpful

That either means he has an uncle with a truck full of usb keys or he has found out that usb keys nowadays can handle being constantly written to. ( just like SSD drives)
Could the latter be true?

Correct. And this is the relevant part of smokey01's reply:Yes, but spy1134 mentions he's not worried about the read/write cycles.
If you need to save your important work more often then press the target icon.
That would be the white "save" icon, at least in Puppy 4.3.1.
From what I understand, this icon only appears on desktops that run pupsave file from USB flash.
(I'm not sure how it appears in other versions of Puppy, as I haven't tried them.)

If you click Menu > System > Puppy Event Manager, then open the 2nd tab from the left, you will see a window where the Default Setting is set at 30. This tells Puppy to write changes to the USB Stick every 30 minutes. If you change that setting to 1 it should Save to the USB Stick every minute.
Another way might be to change the Boot Parameter in your configuration file from "usbflash" to "atahd" (minus the quotes) then re-boot and Puppy should behave as if installed to a Hard Drive (which means writing to the disk all the time).
Back up everything before trying these things, so if it all goes "pear-shaped" you can go back to your original system settings.
