wait,

he said he would be back on it when he finished the job he was on now.

impatience causes bad outcomes!

warning: i'm after a barebones version of 4.3.2 v4 when he has time, for my PuppyRunt to live on top of, so I do have a vested interest.

Yes, I remember that....but I also saw this:

http://208.109.22.214/puppy/viewtopic.p ... f68e23e660

So based on that thread started by him on June 14, 2010, I took it that he was back....and thus I wondered if 432 was a dead issue.

I'll wait......I'm already using this as my primary system anyway. Understandably, real life has to come first. :)

It did come first....he started another project and didn't finish this one.

Take a look around, in the meanwhile

#350 Post by Gurglin »

Instead of sitting and waiting anxiously, I would advise to use Puppy 4ever or Fluppy... both of them seem quite promising!

Shutdown failed

#351 Post by cbs »

Received the following message during shutdown and then system hangs:
modprobe: Fatal: /sys is not mounted
modprobe: Fatal: /sys is not mounted
modprobe: Fatal: /sys is not mounted
System Halted

This failure in shutdown is probably responsible for only generic icons showing on the desktop.
2nd question... is there an advantage of have a swap disk for a frugal install? If yes, what would the appropriate size?

I am a newbie. Would appreciate some guidance.

Blank screen

#352 Post by cbs »

Another question:
When booted from Live CD, 4.3.2 shows on the screen each step of the process on the screen.
However when booting from frugal install, I get a blank screen for about one minute before the screen with the cursor followed by the desktop.
Can some tell me why?

I got tired of waiting for the Official 432 release and tried 4ever as soon as it was announced, as I used the "snapshot" version. It seems solid, and I have yet to discover a problem, other than Pidgin.

I had to drop back to Pidgin265....everything works fine.

Well, I've been using 4.3.2 as the main OS for many months, but it looks like it really is going to be a dead end. Seems like all it needs (and promised) was bug fixed stable main line Puppy.

Just what I and a lot of others really wanted. If we could just get a final word on this, yes it will be completed, or no it won't, we could continue to wait, or stop counting on it and move on and install another hoped for stable long term supported version that works with reasonably new and old hardware alike.

It's okay to give up on something, but it would just help to know that v3 is the end.

hmmm I haven't had much free time lately, mostly the weekends and I try spending it with my family, but I did already say I'll try to work on the olpc puppy this weekend, and If I have time I'll try to do a final of this release.

I didn't mean that it was hoped for by the weekend or even in a month, of course, but just to know if it was over at this initial version.

My main issue is Gtkam crashing when trying to save a photo.

It works for viewing the contents on the camera, but as soon as you select one to save and hit File -- Save Photos -- Selected, it crashes.

Running it from terminal just returns "Segmentation Fault"

I reported this earlier. I think there is more detail there.

Please take your time Ttuxxx, we'd rather have you happy with life and a robust and clean final Official 4.3.2 than one "tomorrow" At this point another few weeks, or more, isn't a big deal. Just knowing you are "on it" is fine.

Code: Select all

I agree, no big rush. :)

Still using as my main system every day, pretty darn solid.

I don't use it but I think xvesa is not working on 432 v3.Some earlier posts about it too.

Xvesa configuration was broken from the start of 4.3.2 development and continues to be broken.

Lack of Xvesa support is a deal-breaker for many users.

Nice to know that it is still on your agenda but take your time. Family is much more important! I have reverted to V3 form other puplets because it just works? :D
