While having a large number of features, OOo4Kids/OOoLight office suite is light.

Congratulations to the team OOo4Kids/OOoLight (especially to project coordinator Eric B. ) http://educoo.org/OOo4Kids.php

Packages (pet and sfs) are available in the repository of the association ASRI Education http://sourceforge.net/projects/asriedu/files/

No comments ... Pity.

I was curious about your opinion of this office suite.

Hi,

OOo4Kids does not use Java and any extension Java based will not work. Oppositely, we'll improve the use of Python with OOo4Kids during the summer.

I'd like to remind you OOo4Kids is made by volunteers, not being paid, and one of the objectives of OOo4Kids is run on powerless and poor-in-ram machines, like Celeron 500 or XO machines, or gdium machines (mipsel processors based), what OpenOffice.org can obviously not do, because too slow, and bloated.

What will help us, would be to explain constructively what happened, and what dictionary you need ?

Just tell us what you exactly need, and maybe we could provide you a localized version (please tell us the OS and the processor). And if your locale is not yet existing, you are warmly welcome to join the effort and help us.

Last, the following locales are scheduled with the coming 0.9.5 :

- Arabic,
- Dutch,
- Finnish
- French,
- German,
- Spanish,
- Italian,
- Slovenian,
- Norwegian (Bokmal),
- Traditional and Simplified Chinese
- Portuguese.

Thanks,
Eric Bachard

I just stumbled on this project ... neat!

Our 14yr old (15 in July) has been using OxygenOffice (OO on steroids) and is comfortable with that.

Our 13yr old might benefit from OOo4Kids -- I will get her to try it and give me some feedback.

It crashed our son's laptop right after the install but it may be the laptop that is at fault as it worked fine after I did a cold reboot.

It is a Panasonic Toughbook CF-28, CPU Mobile Intel Pentium III - 1g, 766MB RAM, Puppy Linux Wary 030

Until now, I've never had this problem with the French version (installed on PII / PII / PIV).
I will be surprised to learn that the English version does not work as well as the French version.
Thank you to indicate if the problem persists.

Sincerely,

I was testing this on an eee 900 (made the pet into an sfs) and I noticed there's only an X to close the app at the top righthand corner--but no command to increase the window size to fill the machine's screen. You can drag the window to full screen, but that seems complicated.

Am I missing something?

It seems stable now so must have been something in the setup of the laptop.

I will report back if anything shows up as he begins to make more use of it come the Fall and school kicks-in.

Good new

@ jakfish
Indeed, when you first launch the application, the display is not complete. Everything becomes normal after the second start.

@ all users
I'll have free time during the month of July.
I take the opportunity to update .pet (v0.95) and build .sfs

Thanks for this .pet. One thing I noticed is that the Standard Toolbar is not persistent. What I mean is that when I enable the Standard Toolbar, it disappears again the next time I open OOO4kids.

Other than that it works well and is light. Keep up the good work.

@ragaman

In fact, the standardbar is the expert level toolbar), but I agree : this is a current limitation. the reason is, OOo4Kids is only intended to use 3 toolbars ( beginner, average, expert), but these toolbars can be customized. All of this, means you can add whatever on them, and this will be available the next time.

Nevertheless, your feedback is interesting, and I'll think to desactivate the feature, in a future version.

Last, if you want to discuss with us, you can use :

- #ooo4kids ( irc.freenode.net , english )
- #educooo ( irc.freenode.net, french )

Thanks again for your interest in OOo4Kids :)

OOo4kids would also unexpectedly close while I was customizing its toolbars. Happened to me twice already.
