libc.mo

locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
Took me several weeks to figure that out that this meant the glibc.mo and not a /usr/lib/locale/default link to a directory ...

I hope i have not fogotten anything .
This has brought me to the idea of adding libc.mo to next langpack_de
Thank you, Karl.

Cannot set LC_* to default locale

I guess those error messages are caused by lacking /usr/lib/locale/${LANG} contents or illegal LANG value, never mean the glibc.mo.

fconvert-1.2.9

#168 Post by shinobar »

New test release: ffconvert-1.2.9.pet (2012-05-26)
http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/

New features:
1. Additional audio track. You can combine the 1st file for video and the 2nd for audio.
2. Screen capture. Note this feature is available on the Lupu and Slacko. Wary/Racy cannot.

Hi shinobar; I didn`t read the whole forum thread as it`s quite long.

Does ffconvert do ffmpeg x264 with the quality setting and single pass?
This is the best all around method, fast one pass and easy to set quality.
I`ve been using Handbrake, but it`s far more complex than is needed.

I tried the old ffconvert and it didn`t work, but I hope the new one does.

Depends on the ffmpeg and the Puppy version.
What Puppy are you using?

It was maybe a year ago I tried ffconvert, not really that important.

Now I use Puppy-528-005 Lucid with Handbrake.
But Handbrake is more complex than is needed.
###
Just need audio stream selection, video and audio output format, and a few other options.
Perhaps this is in some of the preset files that ffconvert can use?
###
Q: Does ffconvert do x264 "quality based" encoding?

OR, are you planning on adding that to it?

Try '-isync' as the advanced options if you encounter no sync with the video and audio when grabing X by the ffconvert 2.9.1 and later.

Screen capture on Wary/Racy-5.3, Puppy-4.x

#176 Post by shinobar »

FFConvert-1.3 supports screen capture. But you need to upgrade ffmpeg for Wary/Racy-5.3 or Puppy-4.x.
For Wary/Racy-5.3, install FFmpeg-0.8.12 to enable screen capture.
For Puppy-4.x, install ffmpeg-0.7.6.

You need not upgrade ffmpeg for slacko, dpup and most of Pupplet-5.x.
For the lucid puppy, the Pmusic Upgrade 005 is recommended.

[TIPS] CAPTURE_SOUND

#177 Post by shinobar »

TIPS:
ffconvert-1.3 has additional options in /usr/bin/ffconvert at line 80:
CAPTURE_SOUND="hw:0,0"

It specifies the sound device associates the screen capture.
"hw:0,0" means card 0, device 0.

You can edit the value by a text editor.
To see the available hardware, type the command 'arecord -l':

Code: Select all

# arecord -l
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC1200 Analog [ALC1200 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC1200 Digital [ALC1200 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 2: ALC1200 Analog [ALC1200 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
The mixer setting can be tested by the recording feature of the mhWaveEdit.

"hw:0,1" is the line-in port for my desktop computer when recording audio.

Audacity's preferences is a good way to understand what
your audio ports are named by system

Thanks for this Shinobar. I think I know what to do now (to get my USB headset working!)

Hi shinobar,

I'm using the latest FFconvert on Akita...

Code: Select all

FFmpeg version SVN-r25158-snapshot, Copyright (c) 2000-2010 the FFmpeg developers
  built on Aug 15 2012 23:04:19 with gcc 4.3.4
I get errors when trying to screen capture, with the ALSA option hw:0,0

Code: Select all

hw:0,0: Input/Output error...
To fix this, I must change the option to plughw:0,0

Can this be auto detected and done for users by ffconvert?

Also, I get errors about a missing -r option ... Each time this happens the -r 29.97 option has many spaces before it (not only 1), and it is separated from the -f 1024x768 option...

I can fix the errors about the missing -r option, if I move the -r option immediately after -f 1024x768 , and remove all double/triple spaces from the ffmpeg command....

Example:

From FFconvert (doesn't work):

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/ffmpeg -f alsa -i hw:0,0 -f x11grab -s 1024x768 -i :0.0 -t 60 -y -f avi -vcodec msmpeg4 -b 1000k -s 640x480 -aspect 4:3 -r 25 -acodec pcm_s16le -ab 160k -ar 44100 -ac 2 "/root/Desktop/x11grab.avi"
the above gives:

Code: Select all

[x11grab @ 0x8080890] AVParameters don't have video size and/or rate. Use -s and -r.
:0.0: Input/output error
Edited, moved -r option and extra spaces (still doesn't work):

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/ffmpeg -f alsa -i hw:0,0 -f x11grab -s 1024x768 -r 25 -i :0.0 -t 60 -y -f avi -vcodec msmpeg4 -b 1000k -s 640x480 -aspect 4:3 -acodec pcm_s16le -ab 160k -ar 44100 -ac 2 "/root/Desktop/x11grab.avi"
the above gives

Code: Select all

[alsa @ 0x8076470] cannot set channel count to 1 (Invalid argument)
hw:0,0: Input/output error
Edited again, using plughw (works):

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/ffmpeg -f alsa -i plughw:0,0 -f x11grab -s 1024x768 -r 25 -i :0.0 -t 60 -y -f avi -vcodec msmpeg4 -b 1000k -s 640x480 -aspect 4:3 -acodec pcm_s16le -ab 160k -ar 44100 -ac 2 "/root/Desktop/x11grab.avi"
I hope you can fix these issues, so that I don't need to manually edit the command in a text editor, then paste back in to a terminal...

I am aware of the issue of the x11grab command options with older versions of FFmpeg.

I didn't know the case of plughw:.

Thanks sc0ttman for the how to.
Next version of FFConvert will have more compatibility with the x11grab function. Wait a while...

I can't get this to work

#182 Post by p310don »

Am I missing something really obvious here? I cannot for the life of me to get anything to come out of this program.

I have lucid puppy 5.28 which is my main PC. I have tried also using this on Barry's latest Precise, and Fluppy. All 3 different puppies yield the same results.

I am trying to use it to convert the .avi video files from my camera, which are encoded in a very large mjpeg codec to something more space efficient, ideally AVC.

I get errors. Only errors. If i use avc, ie mp4 preset, with MP4 MPEG4-AVC, it tells me that my ffmpeg does not support the codec libx264 nor libfaac.

If I use a different preset, or a codec that I choose, I get this error output:

Code: Select all

Sun Sep 16 23:11:15 EST 2012
Processing /mnt/sda1/tkd1/Demos/15September2012/MVI_0498.AVI...
  Duration: 00:04:04.23, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 16260 kb/s
  Stream #0.1 -> #0.1
Press [q] to stop encoding
/usr/bin/ffmpeg: relocation error: /usr/bin/ffmpeg: symbol frame_hook_process, version LIBAVFORMAT_52 not defined in file libavformat.so.52 with link time reference
Any help with getting this to work would be appreciated.

edit: it works in saluki 21 which is good, but would like it to work in lupu as I use it mostly

Hi Shinobar,

Thanks for your reply. I had tried upgrading pmusic, as I saw earlier you recommended this. I was pretty tired, so didn't think to look in the lucid thread for it, I only searched the pmusic thread. I will try downloading this tonight and let you know the results.

For anyone else with the same issue, this is the link here:

FFCONVERT and audio stream

#185 Post by randye009 »

I'm loving FFConvert but am having an issue with a vob converting to mp4. It is using the wrong audio track in the conversion. Can someone explain how to choose the correct audio track? I have tried to use -map in the audio adv. options and it doesn't work.

Thanks
