I just tried booting lupu-500 from cd in a Toshiba laptop with 1.8ghz intel processor, and 512 megs ram and intel video.
Lupu crashed at a black desktop and I then had to boot with pfix=nox and use vesa from the xorgwizard to get to a usable desktop.
So even though lupu-500 thought it had found my video card, and used a driver with its automatic setup, it had not.
It also bombed on using probe and ended up with a black screen.
TEST after probe also locked up the laptop but displayed a screen that was out of sync with no chance to correct it.
I did not try the Choose option in xorgwizard though.
The Toshiba laptop is about 10 years old.

Where did gcc go?
Can use 499 version renamed to 500 |
It is in the devx_500 sfs Mick. i will keep checking. Thanks.
It is there in /usr/bin. Is it possible you forgot to enable it? Naw, that couldn't happen....

Ubuntu Lucid possible copyright/trademark problems. Yes, thank you very much for raising the point. Better safe than sued. My wife has someone who is checking on this for us. Barry has formulated some alternate wording and I might change the background so that it does not have "lucid" on it. Thanks gerry and 8-bit. |
Ah, bad checksum , redownloading...
Only the second time ever that wget has failed me, still, not bad in literally thousands of downloads. Wget is so reliable that I tend to skip the checksum at times. Oh well! (AH yes, but doesn't Quickpet use wget? Yes indeed, and for those who don't know there is an integrity check in Quickpet )
Cheers

Chris (cthisbear)
There is a reason for not including direct download links in the "More Programs" menu in quickpet.
Many of these apps are home grown and script based. They are constantly maintained and being updated. In fact I am due to update pupRadio shortly and I know zigbert has DuDE-0.3 in the works. lstandish is always improving Snap-2. I was actually against including Pwidgets in the main gui for that reason, but I got out voted! (2 to 1 )
Cheers

Yes, I was right, (see my previous post about Seamonkey breaking up when scrolled). Opera works ok. So there's something odd about the Acer Aspire One and the Mozilla browsers in a Debian/ Ubuntu based Puppy. Ah well, can't be perfect all the time.

I just uploaded release candidate 2. it has the Release Notes and the fix to Quickpet for DuDE. (I didn't know about having to include the release notes.) If anyone has a chance to test I would appreciate it. It will hopefully be the actual release which should go to Distrowatch tomorrow.
Here is the Announcement and Release Notes. (It is missing one puppy picture.)

Fresh frugal install of RC 2, went through the typical drill .......resolution, Firefox, Quickpet, etc. .......no difficulties.Installed about ten different pets and everything works correctly.
Didn't realize there was now a RC 3 until I'd already downloaded and reinstalled.

Hi playdayz and all,
Openshot 1.0.0 now works in lucid puppy! With exception of python2.52 pet, links to all the other files can be found in the following thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=418198#418198
After installation, use rox to set permission on /usr/share/openshot/openshot.py.
It can be started through the puppy menu under the multimedia section.
Any errors during startup can be seen by running it through the console instead.
# openshot
or
# /usr/share/openshot/openshot.py
Screenshot below.
Cheers.

Yes, I am sorry there James C. There was nothing bad. I saw a typo and thought it was worth the trouble to fix it. That I thought I had time to do that tells me things are actually pretty leisurely. Thanks.

Just did a quick RC3 check on a new install with only addition being Firefox as default browser. Initial setup was flawless and everything seems solid. Also used my RC2 save file which had my usual complement of 16 programs, all of which appear to be working fine.
No showstoppers as long as you have the Lucid name issue that nooby raised covered.
Congratulations for a job well done,
Jim
PS: I've started on update suggestions for 5.1.

When this gets announced on distrowatch I think there is going to be server overload!
Kudos to everyone who has posted in this thread no matter how small... it's the small things we usually can't find
