lucid 499 continuous barking on welcome message MD8818
Medion MD 8818
When I click to see the welcome message instead of two barks I have a continuous barking.
I have to close the message for the barking to stop.
(P.S. I had this in 117 already)

Updated Lupu 1.1.7 to 4.9.9 without problems
However, overall localization was back to US, had to manually set it to it_IT@Euro again.
No worries about Updates now. Lucid puppy 5.0 will be a fresh start. Don't update to it.
Installed Firefox 3.6.3, which still keeps menus in English (Chromium has 'em localized). Uninstalling it, the free space goes back to only about 70% of the earlier space;
For Firefox: Edit -> Preferences -> Content -> Languages -> Choose -> Select a language to add.
Free Space: Look in /root/.quickpet/downloads/ and delete the pets.

lucid 499 issues on MD8818
Medion MD8818 lucid 499 issues
1 - the first run comes up in 800x600. Should be 1024x768
2 - after defining my Belgian keyboard when the desktop comes up, the desktop drive icons show 0GB (same as on the R40 laptop)
3 - the network setup with sns seems to be persistent between boots.
4 - playing a mp3 (with gxine and pmusic) gives the same kind of repetition in sound as in my previous post on welcome message.
5 - when playing a video from youtube, there is no sound. Video is ok
6 - you2pup supplementary testing.
On the first execution of it, I could download more then one video.
I closed you2pup and restarted it. Now I have the same issue as reported before. So wouldn't it be a you2pup script issue?

lupu 499
I tried it with an update of my pupsave file.
I then edited default browser and default mail as I had on previous updates and mozstart and mozmail no longer work with seamonkey.
I had to change them to seamonkey and seamonkey -mail respectively.
So in effect, the update of the pupsave file broke normal edited calls to seamonkey mail and seamonkey.
I also had checked the saved files you are to look at after the update of the pupsave and found the files there, but restoring them did not work.
So that is the reason I had to edit the desktop files for default browser and default mail.
I did not have to jump through hoops to do this when I updated my pupsave file to lupu-117 from lupu-116.
Also, I was getting errors of GL being too old!
I guess this means part of my Nvidia install that installs new GL files got busted.
But nvidia-settings still works as well as glxgears.
I also got a message of tcl/tk being removed.
It was not removed.
I will have to try it with a fresh install with no pupsave.
Also, I do not use the email package that is included and instead, use the one that is part of the seamonkey package.
And to preserve all my seamonkey settings/mail, I normally just copy the /root/.mozilla directory over from another pupsave.

Unpopulated warning dialog when unmounting drives w/ mounted
Lupu117, fresh frugal install on /dev/sda2, on a Thinkpad T20 laptop. (I have to boot with acpi=force in the >2.6.30 kernels in order for my hard drive to be recognized.)
If I click on the sda3 drive icon to mount it, and then click in that window on pup_save.2fs to mount it, it is successful. Although the pup_save.2fs icon doesn't show a green dot or other indicator that it is mounted.
If I then try to unmount /mnt/sda3 without unmounting the pup_save.2fs first, I get the warning box that ought to say something like 'Unmount failure. Click "exit" and close relevant programs, or as a last resort click "kill" to terminate processes... PLEASE CLICK THE "EXIT" BUTTON!'
But the warning is underpopulated, from the first line ('-wrap FAILURE!') to the last 'PLEASE PRESS THE "" BUTTON!'. This seems important in that unmounting uncleanly can indeed lead to data loss, but the warning doesn't say what button to click. Screenshot attached.

mp (Minimum Profit text editor)
mp has been upgraded in the recent puppies. The ~/.mprc config file included with Puppy is circa 2005, and is not usable, even as a guide for setting mp's configuration from within mp.
If you try to use anything from Puppy's sample config file, either you get a syntax warning, or mp quits with "Segmentation fault".
I did some research. I can provide a config file to replace the one included in Puppy. In fact, I will attach here what I'm currently using; it covers only a small amount of possible configuration settings. If it is useful, I can work up something more extensive.
mp (or mp + urxvt) is buggy compared to the mp version in Puppy 4.1.2, unfortunately.
config file attached.

This is now fixed in Woof, so all future puppies built with Woof have the fix. I also updated the 'jwmconfig2' package.capoverde wrote:Puppy 4.2 WhoDo corrected a misspelling that the following Puppies still carry on - "take affect" instead of "take effect". The respective dialogs are in
/usr/sbin/eventmanager (2 instances)
/usr/local/jwmconfig2/jwmConfigMgr (1 instance)
/usr/local/jwmconfig2/taskbar (1 instance)
/usr/sbin/set-xftdpi (1 instance)

Jim, I think I found the problem.. I will attach a patch, please test.Jim1911 wrote:[snip]
Quickpet did give one problem, as reported for lupu-117, the update function froze the desktop which would not respond to any key presses or mouse movement. I waited about 10 min before pressing Ctrl > Alt > Backspace followed by xwin to restore operation. This problem was repeatable, and occurred even though above post indicated an update is available.
Jim
Also, for those interested, this patch contains a link to the puppy wiki for open office.
Cheers

Or click "File" > "Clear Downloaded Packages" to delete if you want.
To find out about these features click "Support" > "Help'.

regarding drive icons - when restarting x the icons are moved from a user specified location on screen and redrawn and realigned in the bottom left default location.
Don't know if this is a problem with my HDD/ext3 partition? noticed a fsckme.err in sda1 partition "sda1,ext3,/lupu499/lupusave-499.3fs"
Regarding drive icons, this is a trade off to get things working well enough, after you make a pupsave you should be ok. Let me know if you still have a problem.
The fsckme.err file is a flag that invokes a filesystem check if your partition is not unmounted cleanly..(say as in a power failure). It is a new feature BarryK introduced for late model Puppies. It is supposed to be there. I think it get's deleted at shutdown so if it's there at boot then 'fsck' will be run at boot.
Cheers.

Wireless not working on Dell E6500 with "Dell Wireless-N WLA
Hi, I brought this up many pages ago, and maybe I've missed the solution in the many pages since (now up to 62 pages), but Wireless does not work on my Dell Latitude E6500. Presently, if I want wireless, I have to attach a USB one. Other than that, it's super - Fast boot, fast wired connection, Fast load of selected browser - again it's Great, but the lack of a convenient internal wireless connection is a show-slower (not a stopper, 'cause I'll still play with it).
Anyway, I wish I were smarter, so I could be more descriptive, but please see my post on page 5 of the "4.4 Alpha 1" puppy.
I am trying to run Lucid Puppy 499 on a Dell Latitude E6500 with a "Dell Wireless-N WLAN Mini-Card via a USB boot created from unetbootin.
Thanks again, Kurt

Re: lucid 499 issues on MD8818
That happened for me on every lupu so far, but a quick run of the keyboard/display wizard always takes care of it. I have the same issue with Debian, Ubuntu and Mint, but I was never able to get the display set right, always gave up about a half hour into searching for an answer.Béèm wrote:Medion MD8818 lucid 499 issues

Truth be told, I've been trying Debian, Ubuntu and Mint over the last couple of years and the resolution issue has always been a dealbreaker. I go through the same routine every time expecting different results and end up back with Puppy. However dpup always came up at 1024x768, but dpup has the user run the resolution/keyboard wizard before getting a desktop on first run. I've been chalking up the lupu resolution thing to a Debian quirk and just feeling lucky to have the wizard to fix it.

Strange it only happens on the Medion desktop, not on the laptop IBM Tinkpad R40. But indeed, we're lucky to have a wizard that takes care of thing.tubeguy wrote:That happened for me on every lupu so far, but a quick run of the keyboard/display wizard always takes care of it.
