If it still does not work, I may have missed something.
Playdayz or 01mico may be able to shed some light on this.
In my case, after installing the Nvidia PET, I copied the files over from lupu-113.
Also, in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf there should be a line that loads GLX.
Thank you again, 8-bit.
I hadn't realized I needed Barry's Nvidia pet also.
For some reason, I thought it was included in 117.
Will install it and report back.

GLX/DRI will only be working with Barry's Nvidia pet. I went back and forth, putting it in and out, i wanted to include it--that was one of the reasons I began Karmic--but it finally seemed that there was no significant advantage to Lucid Pup and there were drawbacks. This will be something we work on for 5.0.1 or 5.1, to make an addon dri/glx package.

first run configuration image is here. 116 was ok. 117 is back to the blank window on boot and text outside of boxes of 115.
aarf, is that a 640x480 screen? I can check myself. I see that it is. Gee, I don't know.

I am back from booting lupu-117 with puppy pfix=ram after running xorgwizard and then installing Barry's Nvidia PET and the glxgears PET I just had made.
I found glxgears did not work and upon further investigation, I found "Disable "GLX" in the xorg.conf file.
I changed to "Load" and still no go on glxgears.
So I did a file-search for glx.
It seems it is not included in lupu-117 and also is not included in Barry's PET.
If you put it back in, glxgears will work.
But If you leave it out, even though you have the option of installing Barry's Nvidia PET, glxgears will not work without a valid glx extension.
I seem to remember it worked in lupu-116 after installing the Nvidia pet. So glx must have been there.

What is the verdict then?
Does glx and dri get included or left out?

Has anybody managed to install Java on lupup 117?
Yes. I just installed java on 117 and it worked nicely with Seamonkey,at least on the java test examples. I downloaded the self-extracting binary from java.com and followed their instructions and made a link from the java plugin to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and seamonkey recognized java and ran the java test.

01micko might be a bit more accommodating but if java runs just like it is supposed to in Seamonkey.....?????

mtpaint says it is 800x480.
Thanks aarf, I agree we should make it work on that screen. Would you like to help by suggesting how to cut down my verbosity? (in the First Run wizard) ;-)

looks to me more like formatting issue.

I am afraid there is just too much text, but also we will try to format it all closer together.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Ah-ha on the Java issue. Check this out.

Oracle (Sun) Java Runtime Environment (JRE) has been removed from the regular software repositories of Ubuntu 10.04. The reason: it's open source brother OpenJDK (and the IcedTea plugin) is a good alternative, for most people at least.

OpenJDK and the IcedTea plugin are available in the regular Ubuntu repositories and receive regular security updates. They can be installed easily with Ubuntu Software Center, for example by applying this multimedia how-to.
http://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/java

How would people feel about having OpenJDK and Iced Tea? Is anyone looking for a project? Maybe we should wait until later today--this might be what micko is working on.

No luck.
I did install the pet from a terminal as recommended.
I get the window: do you want to install this pet and I say yes.
a short while after I get a window again saying error installation, without more indications.
All I can do is end the install.

This is how I got Java installed to FF 363:

Took Java 6_20 from here as SFS
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=285
(post by tlchost)
After reboot this file
libnpjp2.so
was in
/usr/lib/java/jre1.6.0_20/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so
Symlink to
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libnpjp2.so
Started Firefox 3.6.3 and about:plugins showed the Java plugin installed.

Yes it does playdayz.

My approach worked with 363 in Puppy 432v3 and with 364 in Lupu 117. about:plugins shows java in both cases.
Tested it on screentoaster.com and any video I tried ran fine.

Fresh frugal install of 117 with a new save file.
Several tests.(keyboard 'azerty', locale. Nvidia driver, Opera).

it's OK for me
