set time zone to plus something in the time zone setter and it will show as minus the same something in the mouseover of the time at bottom right. and vice versa.

OK progress here.

It pretty well all works for me now on this particular hardware at any rate.
I'll give it a whirl on the Asus eeepc 901 when I get a mo.

I can set up Lupu 112 to my satisfaction in somewhat less time than I can Ubuntu - so that's good.

Boots straight through to the desktop with the correct resolution, but requires running xorgwizard from a prompt to get the keyboard layout working. I reckon this xorg problem arises from the fact that xorg is trying to do things the Ubuntu way i.e. not really using an xorg.conf at all - hence the need to revert to Puppy's xorgwizard. Would there be any sense in trying out the xorg package currently used in Quirky 018 as a replacement for the Ubuntu package?

Printing is working fine again.

Is it on the cards to get a "final" out to coincide with the appearance of Ubuntu Lucid due this Thursday?. Even if there are loose ends to tie up in Lupu, there is always the option of providing a "service pack" in the form of a pet soon afterwards - keeps the punters interested for a bit longer as well. LOL it shouldn't turn out to be too good!

If things like setting up X can be made as lucid (no pun intended) for the noobies as possible - maybe by means of a clearly written tutorial somewhere, this ought to help the job along nicely.

I got a TEAMVIEWER pet package working fine under Lupu. If you need this for supporting a noob say, then you can get it as a pet package here:

http://www.datafilehost.com/download-e3aa28b8.html

18 odd MB with Wine included. Wine starts from a terminal if you need to run other MS stuff

Try this one, it partially addresses stu90's and dalderton's issues, without breaking for others,

stu90 and dalderton, if it fails for you please report any error messages and if you can look in /tmp/xerrs.log. There are some other file in /tmp to look at but I will devise a way to catch those errors to a file and see if I can get anything useful out of it, thanks for cooperation.

Great work 01micko - tested several downloads and can confirm quickpet-1.2.pet works for me in frugal lupu112 Smile

thanks.

Re having a final version ready according to outer demands of releases of others distros.

Is it not a best approach to have as bug free as possible because disappointed new users can bring the reputation down and such is very hard to get back.

Yes, it is the best approach! Bring on the bugs to be squashed now, before new users can see them crawling around! Very Happy

I just downloaded 012 and booted. I am getting a timed out response when I attempt to download a browser. I had the same problem with 009. Previous versions were working OK with quickpet.

Same response when I attempted to install pwidgets.

download speed is extremely slow here... about 2kb\s to 10kb\s...

can someone post a torrent to lucid puppy 112? I want to try this puppy real bad...

my solution to this persistent situation is a visit to the icafe or else free wifi zones for an hour.

havent done this before but maybe his will work

MY SUGGESTION: Why not just dump xrandr and tell users that, if they want to change the resolution, exit to prompt and use Xorgwizard? It's simple, it's time-tested,

I think you might be right.

I set the following message to Barry this morning. After 112 I believe the feedback has shifted from video problems to the "smaller" items i mention in the message. I do believe it is possible that we could have the "very good week" I mention. I am starting on cups-pdf momentarily.

Hi Barry, Have you had further thoughts about release dates? I am sad to say that right now, Monday APR 26, Lucid Puppy is not of release quality in my opinion. It could be of beta quality. All the main pieces are in place and what is left are the billions of small bugs, and a few not so small. AbiWord, for instance crashes in predictable circumstance and cups-pdf does not print properly.

But we just finished getting the big pieces in place--mostly the way Lupu boots to a graphical desktop and has options for xorgwizartd that I think cover every circumstance. The new programs such as the Browser Installer and Quickpet are also almost ready, as are the extra programs that they install, the browsers, gimp, etc. Most of my energy and time has been going to those big pieces, likewise with 01micko.

So it is possible we could have a very good week now that we have more time to spend on the little stuff and be ready for full release by the week of Monday MAY 3. Best, Larry

Yes nooby, I agree. It will depend on how good a week we have.

Subject description: Quickpet program links

Hi 01micko,

The Quickpet link to snap2 is to an older version 2-4.4.2, the one I tested is 2-4.4.3, however the current version is 2-4.4.4 and it works great. Especially, since zigbert has corrected the conflict between snap2 and DuDE. The correction will be in his next release.

Cheers,
Jim

Great! Three of the problems I mentioned--getting drive icons in the right places, fixing the font display, and (of course) not using xrandr--have already been solved in Puppy 4.3.1, so they can't be too horribly hard. The big remaining problem, I think, is fixing the upgrading procedure so you get the same window manager and background (if available), same timezone setting, and (most importantly) the same desktop icon setup you had before, neither more nor less. I, for one, will be glad to check the forum every morning and evening for new pre-releases until all these problems are solved.
