Lupu008 fresh frugal install. Firefox and Flash seems to work. No crashes. Good job and thanks !!
Cups configuration works but no luck with my printer HP Laserjet 1020. Same errors than previously. I am going to try compile the latest foo2xxx package in Lupu.

Hey pemasu, Did your printer work by any chance in any previous version of Lucid? I ask because most of the previous versions had the foomatic database, about 6MB of printer definitions. Puppy usually does not have it and this version does not have it. I am trying to figure out if it is worthwhile. Thanks.

Announcing the Long-Awaited Lucid Puppy 008! Built anew with Ubuntu binaries of yesterday now April 19 and the latest Woof of April 16. That was a heck of a way to fix the browser crashes but its nice to have a new one.

Playdayz: My printer worked with most previous Lupu after foo2xxx...pet installation. That package is needed for firmware hotplugin.
I dont remember if I tested or used printer with every version.

@ playdayz,

In regard to your trouble creating a save file with a manual frugal install...........I only do the manual installs and I just made an ext 3 save file here with 008, no problem. All of the other releases I've used ext 2 save files and no problems with any of them. Smile

That sounds like the dreaded libfaad bug.

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=406601#406601

There's the fix, probably will fix audacity too.

I thought BarryK fixed that in woof April 16 ??? Confused

Cheers

Hi, just wanted to throw a quick thank you and thumbs up. This latest version allows me to pick the right intel driver at boot up which works great.
Got Firefox and Foxit and OpenOffice - installed Java from the binaries. All seems to be working great. Flash is a bit choppy but that's probably my ancient processor. Really pleased.
Thanks,
Jon.

Oh drat. I am sorry. I played some m4as and mp3s with gxine and they played fine so I thought that bug had been fixed in the latest Woof.

Good you reminded us all about this one

Code:
bash-3.00# ln -s /usr/lib/libfaad.so.2.0.0 /usr/lib/libfaad.so.0

Lupu008 works as good as 006 did on streaming audio and video.

No crashes anymore so thanks for all effort you put into this.

Hope you don't see me as nagging of repeating myself. Smile

What could it be with quirky and pupu and Dpup and Upup that makes streaming video choppy and jerky, delayed motions that makes me seasick almost. I refuse to use it. I have to make use of the vesa instead and can not keep the xorg thing. I use quirky 018 daily and like it but the choppy video after xorg is unbearable to me.

We are three having this problem. I am too lazy, I should check up if us three has same computers and if my other computers behave the same.

Maybe tomorrow. Smile

Not at all Nooby. I wish very much that we could fix it. Does it happen in full screen, or even if you have a small video window? Oh, but you said there are some Puppies that work correctly. It will require better minds than mine I am afraid.

Installed Lupuppy 008 onto a usb stick using unetbootin on a Windows machine. Stuck usb into Acer Aspire One, boots ok, looks good.

Installed Firefox. But it has the same problem that I found with dpup- using the side scroll-bar makes the screen break up into horizontal streaks. Uninstalled Firefox, did not try Seamonkey (had the same problem on dpup), and installed Opera. This works fine (so far).

Wifi connected with no bother.

Installed printer drivers from predownloaded deb files on a usb. No problem. Checked whether link from /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb to /opt/samba/bin/smbspool was present- IT ISN'T!! This is needed to set up printing to a printer connected to a Windows machine. Had to:

ln -s /opt/samba/bin/smbspool /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb

All to no avail, because Pnethood (a) somtimes detects the windows computer, but not the share folder or printer or (b) more often says that it can't find any servers.

gerry
