This is the 4.3.2 experiment
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=390100#390100
This was a test build of an ISO from Puppy using Woof
- It was a test of the Woof build system
- it was not designed as a stable release
It was given the next available Puppy number - perhaps to encourage users to test it . . .
The test was successful - people used it
- some still are - one puplet is based on it
Experiment success
| Quote: | | There was another very confusing thing for me....someone announced a 431 derivative with the bugs fixed. I asked if the bug fixes were available, as I didn't need/want the extra stuff...and I was told no. |
They may not have kept a record of the updates they made
. . . perhaps not so unusual

Karmic Puppy 432
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=48154
another referring to being a 432
| Quote: | Derivative Puppy 432 and VirtualBox 3.08
|
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=53604&sid=2c7cef8fe130f048c2941c9e37cdbb0e
and another 432 derivative Flexxxpup
"based on puppy 4.32 (unofficial) "
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=402858&sid=cc3699838579576cbcfc667a0d3b0838
so it is a bit confusing to us who have not read up on the history of the woof built versions?
I use Flexxxpup just now and like it. it works better on my gear than Dpup and Upup and Spup and Tpup.

Somebody decided not to wait.
Good on you Iguleder.
Come on barry....it's catch up time.
Puppy 4.3.2 Snapshot (23/3)
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=53769
" Just a current Puppy 4.x built with Woof (built on 23/3),
the version number is 4.3.2, because it's same as the
experimental 4.3.2 Barry released, but with the new network wizard
and all the nifty tricks Barry added since then. "

There seems to be a concern by some that an updated "official" release would somehow be detrimental to development of community editions and even puplets. I don't believe that should be a concern at all. In fact, I believe that we should have an ongoing current "official" release coexisting with an ongoing community edition effort plus the puplets. Let the user take their choice - it's all Puppy and they all have a place. It's one thing that makes Puppy unique.
Many, if not most, new users will always prefer a proven, stable official version, but they want it to be current. So do I for that matter, although 5 months is not panic time. Many users view community editions skeptically, justified or not. If Barry is up to releasing a 432, that's great. It keeps Puppy current while other editions are being developed.
As long as 432 is stable when released, can be painlessly upgraded from 431 (I had a heck of a time upgrading to 421), with better or updated applications, then why the fuss, go for it. We need it while more ambitious (and risky) versions are worked on.
And there's nothing wrong with Barry keeping his fingers in it as long as he wants to. Sorry, Barry, but we just need you to stick around as long as you feel up to it...

Amen to this. It's not the difference between new and old users so much as but between serious and experimental or fun users. I'm a serious business user and want the best official stable version, even if it's only the base for an updated Nop,
Henry

Do I gather from posts above that there are already TWO versions of Puppy 4.3.2 out there? Isn't that taking Puppy chaos a bit far?

These are just Woofed puppies with "432" as the version number. They are not official and there's till lots of work to do to make them stable.

Nomenclature |
|
gerry,
In an ideal world all puppies would be called Puppy 432.
This will simplify things considerably.
Maybe we could do away with md5 checksums as well.
Also, could everybody stop posting helpful stuff on the Forum?

It's just a test build, AGAIN, it's not official, it's just there so people can report bugs, that can be useful later.

as for 4.3.2 goes, shouldn't it have all the bug fixes in it? there are bug reports etc. like 16 pages here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=47563
plus a few more http://murga-linux.com/puppy/index.php?f=10
I'm not sure how many Barry fixed etc, would take some work to figure it all out.
