If you're a FF user also try these https addons

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ch-plugin/HTTPS Everywhere is a Firefox extension produced as a collaboration between The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. It encrypts your communications with a number of major websites.

Else try Sandfox

AitchSandfox runs programs within sandboxes which limit the programs’ access to only the folders you specify. Programs and their child processes, like Firefox plugins, Flash, and Java, are only able to access files within the sandbox. Sandfox supports the use of custom profiles which determine what folders and files are included in each program’s sandbox, and includes default profiles for Firefox, Skype, and Google-Earth. Sandfox can create separate sandboxes for each program, or can run multiple programs in one sandbox. Programs are run in a chroot jail as a normal user, providing a substantial level of security. Sandfox is designed to be very easy to use. It handles the details for you while still giving you the ability to construct custom sandboxes easily.
Simple No-Download Test for Java
1. Open a scientific calculator, such as Galculator, in decimal (base 10) numeric notation mode
2. Using numeral keys, ten-key pad or mouse, enter 12648430 in the calculator window
3. Change the calculator to hexadecimal (base 16) numeric notation mode
4. A coherent hexadecimal number in the display will indicate the good kind of Java

Hi all
Just a quick message to say thanks to lobster and aitch for the great links to help with the checking of web security.
also thanks to playdayz for his great tor pet for lucid which is working great with spup100 (especially the baby version without the evil flashplayer, I am also running from a multisession dvd in ram so no saved records )
Keep up the good work and dont remove the bacofoil headware (even though it wont save you from a thermal imaging camera)

Just offering info on how to be secure/paranoid.
Not really cyber-going anywhere I need to keep secure or secret.
I am transparently a fake paranoid
Maybe if I go to these sites I can scare myself silly?

m m m . . . not working
OK how about Google (and their spook comrades - See AI)
and BlockHead-Martin (defense contractor) having access to the first ten million dollar prototype Quantum computing device?
http://www.crazyengineers.com/lockheed- ... llion-429/
Even though these devices have remarkable code cracking capabilities
they will also have potential for benign use.
Trying to feel uneasy . . . nope
Nope..all is lost..all is lost..EricMy internet router just disconected itself and reset itself some 20 minutes later (had to enter my username and password). Has someone decided to monitor my internet traffic? and if so is there any way to tell?
cheers

PS..it's from the movie "Men in Black"..all is lost

There may be logs in your router admin setup
also have looksee if DD-WRT firmware can be run on it - very configurable

I would google if it is possible to do such things from outside.
I have DLink and them most likely can be reset from Admin so it would mean somebody has taken over it.
Should you maybe do a hard reset of it and start all over with another password? and then be observant if something happen again?
I have a vague memory that one can look at log or even set up log to record if others try to log in. But I know too little Just now I have no power supply so I can not test anything
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though
not an ideal solution though
They can do that already. Either you have nothing to worry about or a lot to worry about.Stripe wrote:Hi all

This is also the paranoia for beginners topic.
I can think along the lines of you have a lot to worry about.
I can also think along the lines you have nothing to worry about.
What is your preference?

Hi all
Thanks for the great useful replies
Just had a look and cant find any logs on my router at all, just going to look at the manufacturers website to see if that tells me more.
according to my isp there was no interuption on my broadband/phone line. (but they would say that LOL)
@bruce
I always run under the premise that I am being monitored, and use the internet accordingly
I thought with this being mainly to do with my paranoia this was the ideal thread to post in, as there is not a paranoid for intermediates/experts thread (yet) sorry if I got it wrong
cheers
