Hi Big Pup, Thanks for your reply. I had the same thought and resized the personal storage to 1.7 GBytes. Typically, if I haven't downloaded any large item like a video there, it has about 900 MBytes free. Desoite this, yesterday I had the red 'you have only 3 MBytes left in RAM, reboot to flush..' message. I immediately checked the RAM space with the 'free' utility and it indicated about 70 MBytes free in RAM, not 3!. Oddly (perhaps), after clicking off the console the red warning message disappeared and normal service was resumed. Otherwise, Puppy is an excellent experience, hard to match in other live CD distros.

A couple of weeks ago I did that ram rest on my MD8818.
No problems after an 8 hour run.
Not that I had problems, just to see how it works.
So keep fingers crossed now.

Since this thread has become active again, I used it just recently to test my most powerful tower (which was having reboot/crash problems). Memtest did report errors (I had recently upgraded memory), and poking through the BIOS, it turned out to be memory configuration related. Changed some settings, and it ran memtest for 24 hours with no errors...

I've been using this for years...decade(s)... (I believe it was an early version of memtest that I used to diagnose bad 8088 memory, soldered into the MB...)

Try to save file on -- the part of the hard drive which is not in the Pup Save file.

The folder where your pupsave/lupusave is located is /mnt/home/ (not to be confused with the "house" on the desktop, which is /root/).

Open the "house" ("~" or "/root/"), hit the "arrow up" in the upper left corner -- this is the folder "/" (the base folder -- the top of the filesystem).

Now select /mnt/, and you will see several drives there. One of them will be "home".

I like to drag the "home" folder to my desktop (which creates a shortcut to /mnt/home/)

When you view that folder, you should see either your pupsave, or the subfolder where you saved your pupsave (e.g. I put mine in a folder "puppy431", "puppy520", etc.)

Thanks for all the advice. I try to save any big files, like videos, either to a USB memory stick or the 'videos' folder on the hard drive away from pupsave as soon as possible. Downloads via the download manager can be assigned to a mounted USB memory stick straight away, of course, but (eg) You Tube videos playing in the browser will show up as a temp file and need to be dragged to a more permanent resting place.

I use ultimate boot CD and run memtest86.

Thanks for the tip Béèm, this has been a computer saver today. I isolated a faulty 512Mb memory module after a computer kept randomly crashing!
