Solved :Strange Problem with Puppy and Wireless Desktop?

#1 Post by Nano »

It wasnt puppy. The Desktop didnt work on a second computer at all. And finally also XP on the Netvista failed.

Sorry for the bother but after all the tests i was sure it had something to do with puppy

Hi,

my configuration is an IBM Netvista 6568 (PIII 866MHz, i815 Solana, 60GB WD-HD, 256MB USB Pendrive) running puppy 1.07 from HD with Floppy-Bootdisk and from USB-Stick with Floppy Bootdisk.
With my Logitech PS2-Keyboard and an MS PS2-Mouse puppy runs without problems.

Today i bought the Labtec Ultra-Flat Wireless Desktop (PS2 Receiver, Wireless Mouse + Keyboard). After booting the HD-Install the Mouse didnt work in Xorg. So i ran Xorconfig and then rebooted.

Then the problems started! The IBM BIOS tells me Mouse-Error. Checked the connection of the cables and tried to restart booting into XP. Ok everything worked fine so back to puppy. Mouse still doesnt work. Reboot again and again BIOS failure: Mouse-Error. Tried to boot into XP. Now the mouse doesnt work their either.

Computer-Off pluged the power-cord waited 5 min.
This time i started XP a couple of times (powercord off, restart, PS2-Receiver plugged in again and so on).
Everthing seems fine.
Back to puppy -> Same problem :(

Again: Computer-Off pluged the power-cord waited 5 min.
Booted XP and made a fresh puppy install to the USB Stick. Booting into puppy and configuring with xorgwizard -> Again no mouse and Bios-Error. But now error for keyboard and mouse?.

So again: Computer-Off pluged the power-cord wait 5 min.

Booting only XP: all works fine.
Every time i boot puppy either: the mouse is gone after booting or: mouse and keyboard Are gone?

A really strange error?
I didnt have a CD-Rom yet so i couldn't test Knoppix or SLAX or any other Live-Distro.
And i cant tell if this will only happens with the combination of the IBM Netvista and the Labtec Desktop.

I'll try the Desktop with another PC and let you know how it works there.

But: Does anybody have any idea how to solve this or what the problem may be?

Thank you in advance
Nano

I have a logitech wireless desktop.

the receiver has plugins for ps/2 and USB.
It just works, if I plugin the mouse-cable to ps/2, and the keyboard-cable to USB.

Even then not without problems.
When X starts, neither keyboard nor mouse react.

I must detach the keyboard(USB) first, and plug it in again.

Then everything works fine.
Quite strange..

Thanks for your quick reply.

Unfortunately there is only a PS-2 plug attached to the Labtec-Receiver.

But now i know it is not an uncommon problem after all  .

I keep you posted on what i can find out.
