Puppy 4.3.1 hangs on boot with Acer Aspire One

Hello,

I have been trying to get a new version of puppy 4.3.1 to boot on an Acer Aspire One (one of the newer but not the very newest models).

It hangs during boot at"

loading kernal drivers needed to access disk drives....

I can't even reboot with Alt-Sysrq-R-E-I-S-U-B.

Any ideas on how to get this to work? The same usb drive works fine on a Toshiba laptop.

I had a problem with Puppy 431 on a Compaq laptop that stopped booting at the same place with the same message.
I remedied that by adding "pci=noacpi" to the kernel line in menu.lst
You could also add it as a parameter if booting from a CD.

One of the puppy PFIX= options should be to disable ACPI.

Try booting the computer with Puppy in it, but go into the BIOS instead. Then exit from there to restart ( don't bother changing any settings ). On some quirky BIOS' Puppy only works on a warm ( restart ) boot ( compared to a cold/normal startup).

Also make sure there are no 'fastboot' options enabled in the BIOS, they tend to skip some vital procedures.

Narine, I had similar problems which I thought was a bug in Puppy 4.3.1 due to IRQ 11 being disabled at boot time. i posted the information at:

After working the probem, I found and tested acpi=noirq as aboot parameter. It solved all the problems that I had. Puppy 4.3.1 works very nicely on my Aspire One.

I am using Grub4Dos to boot a frugal installation on the Windows NTFS partition. Here is the entry for Puppy 4.3.1

title Puppy Frugal 4.3.1
find --set-root /pup-431.sfs
kernel /vmlinuz pmedia=atahd pfix=copy acpi=noirq nosmp
initrd /initrd.gz

The above will not work with Grub Legacy (normal boot loader with Puppy 4.3.1) If you want to experiment, here is a post that willl help you on Grub4Dos:
