[Games] ZSNES 1.4.2 - emulator for SNES (Super Nintendo...)

#1 Post by puppian »

ZSNES updated to 1.4.20 (DotPup v002)
(thanks Alucard_the_dex for reminding me about that :))

Click the icon in my-roxapps to run ZSNES. Drag the icon to the desktop if you want a shortcut. Right click the icon for help. Installs in /root/my-applications/emulator/zsnes

You may want to change screen resolution to 640x480 (Start --> Setup --> Xvesa Video Wizard) for better game play. If you use Xorg you don't need to do this, the options you set in ZSNES (CONFIG-->VIDEO) will change the resolution for you.
To configure your input device, click CONFIG-->INPUT #1 (for player 1)

Roms are needed to play games. To uninstall, right click the zsnes icon in /root/my-roxapps,
choose 'Uninstall Zsnes'.

Download:
http://freeforums.bizhat.com/index.php? ... ost&id=229

These libraries are required:
libGL.pup, libsdl.pup (DotPup by GuestToo)
If you have installed Mplayer, you already have them.
Also need libstdc++.so.6.

If you have installed ZSNES before, you may want to backup your /root/.zsnes folder (just rename it).

Oh I forgot
ZSNES is a very good emulator for SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System): http://www.zsnes.com
This is the second zsnes dotpup I made (1.4.2), the first one (1.4.0) is HERE

To play games you need the roms. For example this is a free legal one:
http://pdroms.de/database/files/SNES/Games/Pacman.zip
You can find more on THIS PAGE.

To play the rom you downloaded, open ZSNES, from the menu choose 'GAME' --> 'LOAD'. Then, highlight the rom you want to play and click the 'LOAD' button (bottom right).

You may need to configure the keys too (from the menu choose 'CONFIG'-->'INPUT').

For better video quality try the different settings in CONFIG-->VIDEO, I have Super 2XSAI checked. There you can change the video mode too (with Xorg I can play games in fullscreen).

ZSNES installs and runs fine but without a "gamepad" it's virtually unusable. Puppy recognizes my Thrustmaster gamepad upon bootup but I can't get ZSNES to use it. When I try to config the keys for Thrustmaster it does not respond. What gamepad are you using by the way? Is there a work around for my particular device? Thanks.

Me too :( Puppy's USB Viewer shows the gamepad but I can't get work.

Maybe it's caused by Xorg? It seems that Puppy 1.0.7 (with Xorg) runs slower on my machine than 1.0.3 (without Xorg).

Is there another link to download ZSNES? I tried the link above and it doesn't work.

Thanks in advance! :D

I should have mentioned that I found another link from another post before courtesy of MU but another link doesn't hurt. ;)

The only times I've come across weird fonts on snes rpgs is when they're translated unofficially. Romancing SaGa comes to mind....but that was on zsnes. I haven't tried Snes9x yet.

Zsnes definitely has a GUI. Did u download it from Puppian's link? I got mine from MU's site on http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Emulators/. Maybe give that one a go. It works for me except it doesn't recognize the directional pad on my Microsoft Sidewinder gamepad. Its still playable if you don't mind using the keyboard.

Hmmm..wouldn't have a clue about that. Maybe MU will see this post and shed some light into it. For me I just type 'zsnes' on the terminal and the gui pops up straight away...

Lol...good to hear!! :)
Puppy's version of zsnes feels much faster than my Unbuntu one. Now if the gamepad works i'll be in snes heaven! :D

Mupen64  http://mupen64.emulation64.com/

You need to install the drivers of the graphics card.

It runs well, see image(playing killer instinct gold ):
