Oscilloscope, strip chart or other waveform viewer? (solved) |
|
I know there are various oscilloscope programs available for linux, but for those of us who don't know how to compile stuff to run under Puppy, does anyone have such a program available for Puppy? Don't need much: single channel covering audio frequencies. Dual channel would be better. mhWaveedit could be used in non-real-time. That is, record whatever you want to see and then display it, but I want something that monitors, and hopefully can record, any of the inputs available to the mixer in real time.
Thanks,
BS

I vaguely remember using baudline for something a few
years ago. It's fun.

Menu -> Multimedia -> mhWaveEdit shows an oscilloscope-like view of an audio file that you open with it.

Ravensrest,
I don't know whether it meets your specs, but skol is a java based oscilloscope. If you have java installed then, after extracting the skol archive, if you go to the ./build/Linux subdirectory, give the scripts executable permissions, then click on SkolController.sh, then it will start up.

Or maybe Osqoop (needs qt4-4.3.2.pet installed.)

Doesn't Audacity offer some of those displays, as well? I'm not at a system with it installed, so I can't check.

Thank you all. Baudline, xoscope, and osqoop all work. The latter two are proper oscillocope simulators while the first makes a better spectrum analyzer, but it does have a waveform display mode. Baudline and xoscope installed just fine in Puppy 4.3.1 while osqoop required libQtCore.so.4.3.2 and libQtGui.so.4.3.2 together with symbolic links from the older libQtxxx.so, libQtxxx.so.4, and libQtxxx.4.3 to them all placed in /lib/.
mhWaveedit also works if you are willing to work in non-real-time.

Is GTKWave pertinent?

I have never attempted to use GTKWave, but from its description, I doubt it would perform the real time date viewing that I desire. Looks like it wants to view waveforms stored in particular formats.
Right now osqoop is my favorite.

Yes, that's what I thought. Did you also try skol? Also, winscope works via wine.

Just in case anyone wants either GTKWave, or Baudline, I've uploaded .pets of both here.
