Install Puppy Linux 4.2 on Alix fanless motherboard Sub_title: step-by-step guide |
|
Hello, I'm using an Alix-1D board for embedded system. This motherboard has a VERY little power consumption and is made for 24/7 full-time use. After some experiments, I decided to use the Puppy 4.2 as the resident OS for such board. I also decided to publish a step-by-step (english) guide for installation on my personal site at this url: http://ficara.altervista.org/linux_howto.php. Hope this will be interesting and helpful for someone.
Bye...

Please, note that the same step-by-step guide can be used even for the Puppy Linux 4.3.1 version. It runs fine on my Alix-1D board.

Very nice, thanks. I hope you can also have a page about where to buy that board.

Oops, you're right. I forgotten to add a link to where to buy. The Alix board isn't difficult to find; this is a link http://www.pcengines.ch/alix.htm . You may also find it on ebay looking for Alix board. Bye...

I am using the same board, it is excellent and needs very little power.
However I chose another Puppy flavor called Turbolinux. It is a lot faster and uses less memory than stock version... Worth to try if you are looking for options with slower hardware.

Hello, thank you for info. I will try the version you suggested and, naturally, I'm ALWAYS looking for system that needs for low resources. I recently added to my guide another paragraph for installing the Gambas2 IDE on Puppy Linux (with Alix board). Gambas, Puppy and Alix board are fantastic for developing embedded applications. The difference with the equivalent M$ solution is HUGE as resources and cost... obviously.
