Ah ha, now we have the critical motive: opera10.10-portable fails to recognise the swfdec plugin*%!...
But opera fans will not be railroaded into using seamonkey so easily as opera can add additional plugin paths outside of the quirkysave, and play the omelette.swf regardless ho ho ho

new version of Quirky

#3 Post by bigpup »

using new Quirky
I have found that when going to a new version of Quirky, that you need to start fresh. It does not play well with anything that is from an earlier Quirky. If you remove any saved Quirky sfs files or hard drive installs and start fresh, allot of the problems that you are having will not happen.

Barry: do not know if this should have to be done, but I have had much better luck getting things to work, by doing a clean fresh install, with each new Quirky.

Start fresh
Yeah, each of these Quirky builds is so different, that it is better to start fresh each time.

I'll only start paying attention to upgradeability when/if Quirky gets to alpha or beta status.

Hi I'm just wondering why Quirky2&3 both for some odd reason gives a black background behind the menu icons, is this on purpose? I tried to fix it by changing jwm, xdgmenus and nothing, is libpng faulty? am I overlooking a setting?, is it xorg? whats up with it?.

Icons are normal here on Quirky 003. :)

As I posted on the blog, 003 is the first Quirky to allow the correct resolution with my onboard Intel 810 graphics.....

Indeed
I tried puppy pfix=ram
. . . and just remembered it is quirky pfix=ram
no wonder it picked up all my old quirky settings and did an update . . .

I need to get rid of:
quirkysave.2fs
quirky-001.sfs
quirky-002.sfs

As it was I could not view a flash file from Youtube - started got about 5 secs and then stopped
or an ASF video file I had just recorded

That's strange. I'm running 003 right now, just confirmed that Flash plays at youtube. Every Flash video I have tried so far, works.

I wonder if you also have a problem with your Xorg video driver. What video hardware do you have?

You could try running the xorgwizard script and choose the 'vesa' generic driver, then see if that makes any difference to playing Flash.
Up until recently I was using the 'vesa' driver and the Flash player worked fine.

perhaps we could have the default keyboard set to australian keyboard (doesnt even exist in the menu at present)and similarly, the default language set to okka-ish or if you must australian english. time zone defaults are ok.

ttuuxx, I had this issue here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=46266

So it appeared with Ati-cards, after upgrading Puppys inbuilt xserver 1.5 to 1.6.3, and adding also the updated libdrm and xorg drivers, and opengl (mesa).

I wonder, which of these components causes the black icon backgrounds...

Slow Screen Redraw / jerky video after screen rotation

#14 Post by ckteo172 »

Barry,

I'm having slow screen redraw / jerky video playback after using xrandr to rotate the screen by 90 degree on a Intel 945GM Platform. I'm using VLC 0.9.2 to do the video playback.

Any idea what can be done to improve the situation?

Attached is the xorg log file.

Thanks

I wonder if you also have a problem with your Xorg video driver. What video hardware do you have?
Did a fresh run after removing old quirky files

The built in video hardware (on motherboard) is
NVIDIA Geforce7050PV/GeForce7025

As far as I remember it worked in 24 bit colour mode
in the previous Quirky
This time I had to drop to 16 bit
using the xorgwizard

ASF not working in Ogle
The Flash player works with intermittent sound for about 5 seconds
then the flash image stops - sound gets weird then stutters, then stops - whilst the sound is grinding to a halt a few still images from the flash video appear on screen - so it is not streaming properly (or something)
The browser is frozen and I have to restart x to clear it

Update
Ok changed the driver (in the config file) from nv to vesa
Now the flash video played 8)
It did pause and drop a few frames every 5 secs (so still not quite there) but sound and video played to the end and no browser crash

Update 2
Ah forgot to mention the screen bleaching is still there
left the computer -
came back all icons and screen has a bleached out appearance

ttuuxxx,
It's not so good that you are using the generic 'vesa' driver.
I know that Nvidia hardware is troublesome, but I thought that the Xorg Wizard should have automatically chosen the 'nv' driver, and that should work.

Note, Quirky has Xorg 7.5, and Xorg server package version 1.7.1.

I have no idea. Looking at your xorg log file, I see that XvMC is enabled. That's strange, as I left out those libraries. On my laptop, the xorg log file reports that XvMC is disabled.
Is your VLC package providing files that look like "libI810XvMC*"? If so, they are probably the wrong versions for his x server and may be causing problems. ...a long shot but that's the only thing I can think of.

Ah, so you have a simlar situation to ttuuxxx. There is a proprietary Nvidia driver we could use, isn't there? I haven't been following the saga with nvidia, as I don't have that hardware.

Ah, yes I do, my daughter gave me her old PC, which has a Nvidia graphics card. I haven't got around to setting it up. Will do.

Ummm, where can I get Nvidia driver source to compile?

vtpup has written an nvidia howto:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 818#365818

...well, the 2.6.31.5 sfs file would have to be used.
