Hello everybody!
I am a faithful follower of Puppy/Toutou LINUX (French version of Puppy) and feel now really uncomfortable with 'Windaube' (as we are used to call this 'stuff' in French > daube=stuff!). But why applications and programs haven't got systematically their corresponding po and mo files for those who are not English-speaking and in a good mood for working on localizations? For example, I tried to make 'a' (not 'the', because I am yet not sure at all of the result though it seems to run as well as possible!), so I say I tried to make a French localization of JWM (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=39162&)start=210)... Everybody knows how it can be (sometimes) a long and quite difficult job... Do you think I will do it again for every release? Surely not! This is a pity and a lot of given/lost time! Isn't it? So, could anybody explain that to me? What is the feeling of Barry (full of genius Barry!) about this?

I have yet got some problems with my localization of JWM and have to work on it a bit more! But I will take your advice...

I am gradually moving towards internationalizing the scripts in Woof, thanks to shinobar. So far I have done remasterpup2, pmount and drive_all (latter is what runs when you click on a desktop drive icon). We currently have English and Japanese translations for these.

Here's the icewm package I made up for 4.2, I added 34 locales to it, and yes french is included Smile

Hmmm another reason why I like Icewm over JWM, but lately I've been getting use to jwm, but still do prefer Icewm.

In any case, thanks to Barry for his attempts at "localization" (which he described above), and all the previous and current Puppy / Quirky explorations and implementations..

There is certainly a need for easy implementation of a distro in the ordinary user's language. The bigger distros have it built in. An example among the smaller distros is cdlinux.

So the solutions do exist. How difficult would it be transfer those to Puppy? I suppose we don't have the manpower.
