Subject description: Pupbuntu is now officialy in the recycle bin.

This system is designed for ease of use, and for those who are looking for a simple operating system. Several programs were removed during the making of this system, while others were introduced. This is the culmination of about thirty hours of work, it's still a work in progress, but I present to you my pre-release concept with screen shots included.

This system takes full advantage of the XFCE window manager, and Thunar file manager. Yes, you will notice the similarity right away too any Xubuntu users out there (as this operating system was modeled to be a faster version of xubuntu with less footprinting involved.)

Programs
-----------
GOffice/Abiword
GTK iPod (Tested/Working)
Firefox 3.6.5 (Beta, Very Stable)
Opera 10 (Stable/Working)
OpenOffice.org 3.11 (available as a supplemental SFS)
Sega Genesis Emulator (tested/working)
SNES Emulator (tested/working)
MAME Emulator (tested/working)
DOSBox (tested/working)
VirtualBox (texted/working)
N64 Emulator (tested/working)
NVIDA/ATI Drivers included (tested/working NVIDA/ATI)
D3D Library Packaged In, SDL, Direct Draw
Yahoo Mess. (10 MSE Version/Working)
Pidg (Tested/Working)
AquaLung (Tested/Working)

Package of over 84 additional libraries are included in this package. Most programs will work w/out requiring additional libraries.

This is a beta version, I am in need of testers - no less than (10) to request a copy of the pre-release ISO. Final version is expected on this date in one month. The initial footprint on a PIII 400Hz/224MB RAM was 6% (in idle.) On a Quad Pentium 8.5GHz/12GB Ram, 3.5GB Video Memory (NVIDA) the footprint was hard to find but clocked it using about 0.003% of the CPU/RAM. If you are interested in testing please send me a Private Message, or if you have any ideas or would like to contribute. Once again I am in need of at least 10 (ten) testers before I can start a public release. Thank you very much, I look forward to any/all input.

NOTICE: Diamante project officially changed to project: Pupbuntu 1/6/2009[b]

After careful consideration Diamante has been officially renamed Pupbuntu as of 1.6.2009. The name change came about after our blending of several operating systems (primarily Xubuntu & dPup 4.82.) We felt that this name would benefit our project giving it an easier to remember name for users. We are still in the process of compiling our project to upload it on the internet for public use. This will be Pupbuntu v1.0. Still in need of beta testers once the Alpha version is compiled. Below is the first screenshot made public of Pupbuntu.

UPDATE: Jan. 08 - 2010 @ 03:38MST

As many of you know we have been developing a complete rebuild of the Puppy Linux operating system. We have ran into many snags and tears along the way, yet we have continued to push our way through these struggles in an effort to develop a new system with full debian, rpm and apt support. Our official alpha version was released to private beta testers on Jan. 07 - 2010 @ 18:35. There are currently 31 beta testers including myself and the development crew.

The official target release date for public release is currently set for Feb. 03 - 2010. Beta testing will be closed as of Jan. 28 - 2010. We would like to thank the many users whom have participated in our beta program and to the rest of you for your support and encouragement alont the way. Working together, I am certain that Pupbuntu will grow and be a strong force in the Linux world.

Thank you,
Ronald L. Harsh
(Lead Programmer/CEO)

Update 1-12-2009
After careful consideration we have decide to not build our Linux system dependant upon another Linux base. We have decided that it just wouldn't feel like "ours" so it is with much regret that the Pubuntu project is officially marked for termination beginning: 1-16-2009. Our new system will be built from the ground up using a simple kernel with many more options that Puppy Linux would allow for us. However, Pupbuntu will be released: Feb-16-2009 as promised as it is being taken over by a Sweedish software firm. It will bear the name, and the new program designers say that they can work around Puppy's strict limitations in order to bring you all a quality product. I however, will still continue to use the Pupbuntu beta as my official work-place operating system for a long time to come. My software firm, and myself will continue to endorse and promote the Puppy brand via our website: http://www.pupbuntu.com/ (as of 1-19-2009.) Thank you all for your support and your continuing contributions to open-source software.

Yours Truly,
Ronald Lee Harsh

No I have not, I made my own hybrid os out of the Puppy 4.3.1 & dPup 5 base. All of the packages included in this program were either written and compiled by myself or my two other associates. All of the packages included are debian based distros. We compiled this distro from the ground up, it offers several window managers: KDE, XFCE, IceWM, JWM. The Grub version of this distro will be available as early as next week (although the ISO size will be: 450MB.) The Arcade Puppy was a nice distro however, but found it certain kinks. We are constantly striving to create our own ideals & distros. PS, I am an avid gamer so the emulators were my ideal. And the ideal to put DosBox in was just so I could play Worms. Very Happy Yes, our distro is very (and let me emphasize very) slightly similar to Puppy Arcade, only in the sense it has a few emulators. However, outside of that the two cannot be compared any further - as the similarities die beyond the emulators. Thank you for your interest in our Puppy (it's been a good pet so far!) Very Happy

I see in screensot_4 an open page on eee user forum, is Diamante suitable for eee too? (I don't expect keybord shortcuts or so, just to be working as standard Puppy 431) If so I'm interested in testing

Yes sir, the GO-Office is quite nice. The version that will be included in our additional SFS is going to be a new release codenamed: Puppy Office. It has all of the key compon. with a lot of un-needed coding ad routines (that were just taking up processor space) removed. Ultimatly they will run about the same speed. I use Go-Office now on my personal machine (and yes huge difference over reg. 3.11.) Ah yes, the mystery of worms, I think I've tried just about all of them; love the Armageddon though (still my fav.) I didn't want to put to many emulators in this distro (but I guess I can always squeeze in: Epsxe for those who want it. I am also in the process of setting up our own repository (that will allow our OS to auto-update) and we hope to have that up within the next 72 hours. We will also be giving away to our beta testers a personal online storage of up too (1TB) @ (84MBps.) Thank you for the tip sir, consider it done. Very Happy

Sir the screen shot you were seeing was from my PC 1101HA, and yes I demand full compliance (as EEE is what I use myself.) Actually th Fn + shortcut keys are working pretty good right now (currently improving a script that monitors their function.) If I could not make it compliant for all types of PC's we'd be better off to not make it at all. Yes sir, I do beleive we have what you need. Very Happy
